Again are you a athlete on some type of "pro" level. GSP is amazing athlete and he has a strength and conditioning coach.

There is more to it than just a regular boxer who keeps up to date. That's like saying hey, I go to the gym alot and i'm in shape and keep up with the latest and greatest trends.

It's all a science. Boxers don't get this way by themselves and a regular coach, look at NFL, NHL, NBA etc etc..

I'd assume that a regular boxing coach already has his hands full with just training the boxer already?

Yea hokous pokous fighters in the 20'to 80's fought 15 rounds without all these condtioning coaches. They relied like someone stated year round gym work cause they fought every 2 to 4 weeks

Mayweather has no conditioning coach (officially) : superb conditioning

Williams had no conditioning coach : superb conditioning

Calzaghe had no conditioning coach : superb conditioning

I could go on and on, all these fighters from the past who were in great shape, always made weight and could go 15 rounds hard.

I already acknowledged that science evolves and you can always learn new techniques but they don't make much of a difference. It can help, but you ain't gonna win or lose a fight because of your conditioning coach

I think they are probably over rated. Look at the results Mayweather gets. I think his diet is probably better than he leads on and he probably has some knowledge of nutrition. Joe Louis, Dempsey and Robinson all had trainers I think, but not strength trainers or nutritionists. I am not saying they don't help but many fighters do fine without them. When you throw a few thousand punches a day you have pretty well built all the muscles needed for throwing punches. When you run for miles and spend hours jumping rope and shadow boxing your legs are in shape for combat. The old school methods worked and the proof is all the old time fighters that could go 15 hard rounds and throw a ton of punches. Would they have been better with strength trainers and nutritionists? Maybe a little better but not much.

Every other boxer seems to have a fancy strength trainer and nutritionist but Floyd eats junk food and does his own circuit routines.

Are strength/conditioner/nutritionists overrated? Does plain hardwork and old school training trump all?
IMO i think fighters who have ahard time making weight(cutting) or keeping weight on need them. For guys like FMJ, who stay in shape year around, they dont...

He hired Leonard Ellerbe as his strength and conditioning coach I believe. And he may still be under that title as well as his financial adviser.

He's more of a motivator now though.
