Yeah but when he faught Tarver he was older. Its just reality.Originally posted by .:ImSoFlyyy:.Let me add Jones still has his speed and is still very hard to hit... but now that he's fighting a boxer who can reach his chin and do damage, he's "out of his prime"

Oh yeah... then it applies to Tyson.
Tyson should hang it up and for his fans to act like he still has anything in the tank, really says how out of touch they are with reality.

Two truths.
Fighters age differently according to their strenghts.
Jones was all speed and reflex, and he was visably never the same after bulking up to 200lbs with no body fat and then getting back down to 175.
In his last good showing, he clearly beat Tarver by two rounds.
Rewind that, take it back and put Tarver in with the Jones who fought Julio Gonzalez or Richard Hall (around that time) and he gets thoroughly beaten and possibly stopped.
Tarver matured later, and deserves props for beating a faded Jones.
But prime on prime Tarver doesn't touch Jones.Last edited by Bozo_no no; 12-16-2005, 03:41 PM.Comment

Its not Tarver's fault Roy declined rapidly.
The whole losing this and losing that is just a way RJJ's fan discredit Tarver.
Faded? RJJ just went up and won a heavyweight title... and was expected to beat Tarver again but "faded".

Tarver deserves credit for his showings agaisnt Jones, but to imply that Roy was the same fighter he was before he went to Heavy and back is grossly inaccurate.
He was a different fighter.
Look at Ray Leonard and Ali.
They were of the same mold as Roy in that they both got by with superior speed and reflex.
It's no coincidence they all went downhill after 35.Comment

Roy still had all his "abilities" intact against Tarver. Hell, the "faded" Jones still had 10 times the talent and natural speed Tarver had.

Roy was clearly fading, and that was evident in the 1st fight with Tarver, which he clearly won.
I'll say it again: There is no compairison between Roy before he went up to Heavy, and Roy at 35 after cutting 25lbs of mussle.
He was faded, and not the same fighter.Comment
