It not about the not making weight. I doubt HBO gives a **** about not making weight, so long as the fight still happens. When the fight doesn't happen because you didn't make weight, thats when they start to get pissy.

Broner isn't at the level where he can piss off HBO like that.

TRUE...but if anything wouldn't HBO be more upset with Escobedo for not wanting to fight anyway regardless of weight because lets be honest that is what usually happens...the guy that missed weight loses his titles and get fined HEAVILY and the fight USUALLY goes on as planned

Me personally I don't blame Escobedo for pulling out, because that is one of his options available to him

i'm not sure Broner realizes the severity of the situation.. when a network puts in tons of money, they expect a show. all the money HBO and the promoters just invested in this fight just went to ****. they already payed all the press conferences, all the air time and the set up for the ring, etc. HBO, not matter how good you are, does not want to deal with someone unreliable.. look at what happened to Joan Guzman. He was outcast.
I hope he's humbled by this experience and bounces back from this.. not that I'm a fan of his.. because I'm not.. but because he's a young champ with a whole career ahead of him.

Unprofessional. His team needs to better manage this kid. First on the agenda: a public apology to boxing fans and people who spent time and money for tonight's cancelled card.

This is the first fcuk up. HBO will give him another chance. If it happens again, Al Haymon won't be able to fix it.

This Broner guy should be suspended for at least two years. This should be unacceptable canceling a fight at the last minute. This is obviously intentional. I mean how hard is it to gain weight at a gradual pace and gain the required amount from 133 to 140? No wonder he can't face his opponent with a straight body in the press conf and weigh in.
