ill give the UFC one thing without a doubt.

A UFC event is coming up at Staples Center, I guarantee it will have a higher live gate than Ortiz-Lopez which also took place at Staples Center
UFC on FOX: Shogun vs. Vera
Ortiz-Lopez: 6,000 attendance
UFC consistently puts up great fights and continues to do so. It's entertainment. Just because you're a boxing fan does not mean your only choice is to hate UFC. Some people enjoy both.Last edited by tranquilo; 07-01-2012, 12:09 PM.Comment

its about branding a fighter with UFC and your right no one cares about records. One thing i will take away from UFC is the small gloves makes it too easy for someone whos in the upper echelon of fighters to get caught with a grazing shot and go to sleep its almost not even fair.Comment

Strange comparison. They are both smallish shows. I bet the UFC show (which is weak imo) doesn't get more then 8k paid, which is still good but doesn't really say much either way.
The biggest problem in MMA currently is that it's hard for fighters to put up dominant runs, sure the competition is hard but they haven't had many new stars since it boomed in 2007.Last edited by RSBonos; 07-01-2012, 12:36 PM.Comment

Boxing is a sport though. You said it yourself the UFC ranks guys purely because they put on a show. It would be nice if more guys like that got ahead in boxing but at the end of the day if you get beat you don't deserve to progress.
Although at the end of it all the idea that a boxer's career is over at a loss is nothing but a myth, if not total nonsense. Aside from Mayweather who cares about his win record as a career defining achievement just look at the top fighters today. We have Manny, lost early in his career then later to Morales and JMM. Does anyone care? Mosley has lost plenty of times but wait, there he is getting million dollar championship fights against the best guys. Cotto loses to Marg - gets a rematch - we still love him AND he gets a major fight with Mayweather. Vitali and Wlad both have terrible losses in their career. Did it all end for them? No. Chisora, Haye. They lost and they're still kicking now with yet another million dollar fight coming their way. Martinez lost. What's he doing now? Oh yeah he's getting into the biggest fight in Mexican history. Was JMM treated unfairly when he got his big payday with Pac followed by some pocket change grabbing PPV on HBO? Where exactly are these fighters who lost it all because they lost a fight? They don't exist. It's utter bollix.
I'll tell you this though. The UFC has a three fight loss rule. Lose three times straight and you're out. It's nothing but UFC propaganda that people eat up. Just like their made up nonsense that they pay better than boxing even though in reality they pay pocket change. On top oft that there's only around 10 guys in some divisions in the UFC so they have to reuse the same guys. There are only around 300 fighters in the UFC compared to 20,000 in pro boxing.Comment

Even the big events at the MGM Grand in boxing don't sell out, whereas the big events in UFC at the MGM Grand do.Comment

There are no cash cow's in UFC hiding behind a castle with they're promoters while they look on as the competition tear each other up and lower they're gates on a safe basis fight.
Even still they don't get my money.Just not huge in mma at all.Comment
