I understand it's a smart move. It paid off and I'm happy for him. But this doesn't change what he did and admitted, which is, "I didn't fight Khan because what if I lose? I'd ruin my chance at a Pacquaio fight" (Paraphrasing).

And I don't knock Bradley for fighting Casamayor. I obviously don't give him credit for it but he took it because he was coming off a lay off and shaking off the rust. And that's fair enough, almost every fighter does that.

As for Ortiz, obviously it's different. If Ortiz and another fighter were the #1 and #2 in a division and everyone wanted to see it, Ortiz called him out on TV, then he came out and said "I don't want to fight him right now because I may lose and that mean's I'll lose my chance at a huge Alvarez fight" then that would be an obvious duck. Smart business decision or not.

Either way, if he did or he didn't, the fight was set and perfectly timed for July of 2011 and both seemed on board until one of them walked away.

Of course he signed to TR for a reason. He wanted the Pacquaio fight. Everyone knows that.

But he wasn't guaranteed it, it wasn't something he was definitely going to get. Bob Arum said that himself and it's clear as day he wasn't. He wasn't even first choice for June 9th.

As for Gary Shaw, he had one fight left on his contract which looked like the Khan fight, but he walked away and ending up signing with Top Rank. That's why Shaw was sueing him, if I recall.

He should have fought Khan in July, then signed with TR and in hope for the Pacquaio fight
The thing is, you have to put EVERYTHING in to context. It wasn't just a matter as easy as Bradley saying "I want to fight Khan, where do I sign?"

There were a variety of things going on, but yet a lot of people overlooked several pieces to a puzzle that would have made it whole.

First, you HAVE to go back to his promoter Gary Shaw, whom Bradley was already at odds with BEFORE anything with Khan ever came about. What you wrote in reply to Romebyko regarding Shaw, was incorrect. He didn't have 1 fight left with Shaw when the Khan issue was on the table. He only had a couple of months left on his contract with Shaw when the Alexander fight was in negotiations, and because the fight itself would have actually occured AFTER his contract was over - Bradley signed an extension with Shaw only until the fight was over (I have not read anywhere that Bradley extended anything beyond that). Bradley didn't want to extend with Shaw for that fight, but HBO also wanted that fight badly enough to not only offer both fighters over a million dollars for their fight, they also guaranteed both fighters another million PLUS in their NEXT fight (key word being NEXT) NO MATTER WHO THEY FOUGHT (within reason but had no specific names they had to fight). So, after the Alexander fight Shaw begins working on a Khan fight, IMO believing he could offer Tim such a good deal he would sign ANOTHER extension and stay with Shaw. The problem was (in part) that Shaw begins to berate Tim to the media and whoever would listen. He starts airing their business to the public, even to the point of damn near negotiating with Tim through the news... claiming that he's willing to cut his own fee % back (to 10% I believe). Who would want to have a promoter who is talking **** about you (your own damn fighter ffs) to the media AND your opponent and their promoter???? And he wants Bradley to sign an extension with him after yapping **** about him in public?!?!? Shaw was extremely unproffesional, and downright unethical IMO. I don't blame Tim one bit for not wanting to spend another second under Shaw Promotions. So, Bradley sits on the shelf rather then fighting for Shaw (lawsuits begin)... and in comes Top Rank.

The offer by HBO was another part of the puzzle - Team Khan was offering around the same amount to Bradley as HBO was guaranteeing (not including PPV) Bradley to fight whoever, next. Hypothetically, why would Bradley use up his guaranteed big money fight with a guy he could make the same amount with on his NEXT fight? If he would have had Khan as his next fight, he would have used up a 'free pass' if you will. He knew he could fight 'whoever' NEXT for a million plus and then make another million plus fighting Khan later. Keep in mind, all of the above stated is BEFORE Pacquiao's name even came in to the mix.

I know this is long-winded, but some things are just more involved then they appear to be. The bottom line is, after the Shaw **** - Bradley went to Top Rank, he got his million plus for the Casamayor fight... got lucky and was given the opportunity to fight Pac next. The truth is, he would NOT have had that opportunity if he was still with Shaw, or if he WASN'T with Top Rank. I think if you can take everything in the context in which everything was presented to Bradley himself, it should be difficult to say that he was outright ducking Khan. IMO, Shaw was the where the real issue was.

Besides, it's not like Bradley is retiring or hasn't said 'I STILL WANT TO FIGHT AMIR KHAN'.

No difference to Khan, but a difference to Bradley..In he would have to sign on to fight under a guy he did not want to be with or stuck with..They were not both taking the same risk btw..Bradley loses to Khan,no fight contracts no top promoter only Shaw and his broke ass is no prize...

Khan loses to Bradley back to the drawing broad we have two or three fights to build this kid up..

Can you see the risk difference a lil bit better now..It really don't get no simpler then this...

He wouldn't have to sign an extension. The final fight on his contract would have been Khan.

He should have fought Khan, then pursued Top Rank.

Not true. Khan had fought 3 fighters in the Top 5; Kotelnik, Malignaggi and Maidana.

Both of them at that point, 2011, had done as much as each other.

And what provisions would he have to make?

The McCloskey fight is completely irrelevant. If Khan said "I won't fight in July if I fight McCloskey" then it would have a point. Or "I'm fighting McCloskey in April therefore Bradley has to wait until the end of the year" then it would have a point.

But, Bradley wanted July. And that was fine with or without the McCloskey fight.

What? This is how you know I'm a true Khan fan?

I'm not even a big fan of Amir Khan. I've said this already.

I like him and I think he's a good fighter. I also like Tim Bradley and think he's a good fighter.

Why would I lie about who I am or am not a fan of? I'm not a child. If I am a fan of someone, I'm open about it. As I am if I dislike someone.

And again, with or without the McCloskey fight. What would change?

A lot of speculation in your post and opinions but good post none the less.

A few things in there I was unaware of.

But, I'm still lost on why he couldn't fight Khan and then leave.

Perhaps it wasn't a one more fight contract but surely they could have worked out a deal that lead to just having the Khan fight? After all, Bradley said July was the date. So what was he expecting?

Could he not have fought Khan and then signed with TR? Was this an impossible outcome or not? That's an honest question.

And as for the last part of your post. I've said this a million times. Not for a second do I think Bradley is afraid of Khan. I don't think Bradley is afraid of anyone.

I know that Bradley walked away from Khan in good intentions. He walked away because he wanted Pacquaio, everyone knows that.

My problem is, that fight wasn't guarnteed to him. And I simply don't consider that a justifiable reason to walk away from a big fight like that.

If Bradley was guaranteed Pacquaio, however. I'd be over the moon he walked away from Khan. But, he wasn't.

They would have fought in June, and Bradley would not have to sign an extension with Shaw..You've been told this and there is documentation..So why act as if you don't already know..

For a guy who likes both, you sure only see from one person business point of view...The Mccloskey fight was a money fight(btw it also set up a safety net)no denying this..He could have went straight to a Bradley fight like he said he would anyway...So now that Bradley takes a different path, because of better business he is a duck??Sounds like double standards imo..

How much business did the McCloskey fight do?

Either way, the McCloskey or not, it still didn't do anything to hinder the fight.

Bradley said himself that the fight was pretty much set for July.

You certainly need to learn the definition of what a double standard is

So was July not possible? He couldn't fight Khan in July then sign with TR?

I see the business point of view of Bradley. Please show me where I have denied that.

Bradley signing with TR was a great business decision. I just wish he'd have fought Khan in July like planned before hand.
