    No title on the line.

If it was at 140 lbs it would have benefited Pacquiao more.

      • Pacquiao only had 2 catchweight fights.

a 145 catchweight against cotto who weighed 146 in his last fight

and a 150 catchweight against a career welterweight.

How the hell does that make him the catchweight king?

Title always makes it more interesting.

At 140lbs, it would have been an easier fight for Pacquiao.

Can you lay blame at Manny but not at Andre, I find it hard to believe you can, unless you apply double standards.

I seen numerous posters criticise Pacquiao for his fights against, Cotto, Margarito, and for wanting the 2nd fight against Cotto at 147 lbs, but very few people criticise Ward for not fighting Dawson at 175 lbs

If anything Pacquiao should be criticised less.

After all he had already rose up through 8 weight class and could not reach the weight limit of the division he was fighting in and he gave away weight advantages in the ring against Marg and Cotto.

Ward on the other hand is a big super middle and can easily make the light-heavy limit.

Margarito was a carrer welter and was very comfortable at 150 lb.
Cotto a former light-wetler and only had to weigh in 1 lb less than his previous fight.

Dawson on the other hand is a career light-heavy, definitely not small at the weight but now has to drop 7lbs to face a top p4p fighter.

So can you crticise Pacquiao but not Ward and not show blatant double standards?

              Poll Coming!!!
There have been catchweight fights throughout history. This is a fact.

Yet no other so-called elite boxer in history has used catchweights so frequently to make a legacy for themselves.

Its one thing to move up and challenge a bigger man. Its another thing to have previously made the division limit twice and still stipulate that your opponents cut weight. Its unscrupulous at best and depicts exactly what Manny has been doing: Seeking advantages before the match ever even starts.

Manny Pacquiao has been weighing in on fight night at 144lbs since he was a SFW. That is the WW division.

Manny Pacquiao has marketed himself(or more accurately hired others to do his dirty work for him) as the smaller fighter taking on bigger fighters. That isn't smart promotion or marketing. Its a blatant lie and misrepresentation of the facts. Pacquiao has often outweighed many of the men he has claimed were bigger than him on fight night. Its a bait and switch.

So to end, if Ward were to make it a habit of stipulating that his future opponents drain down where he is most comfortable, then yes .. he should be judged as harshly as Pacquiao has and continues to be judged. There nothing wrong with a catchweight fight. There is something wrong with frequently using catchweights when making the argument to be considered among thee best.

Its misleading. Its deceitful. Its a deceptive practice that has seen Manny Pacquiao go from being considered an impressive fighter against Barrera and Morales to being a superstar based primarily on his wins at higher weights(WW & jrMW).

Why lie and pretend? Its because the legend cannot continue unless there are those who still tell it .. even in the face of facts which dispel the myths.

              And there you have it.

My point is calling him the catchweight king is extremely exaggerated.

                  • LOL at this dumb topic getting debunked in the first couple of comments.

Dawson called out Ward and said he'll go to 168 to fight him.

Mosley wanted to fight Pac, Roch tells Mosley "140 or no fight".

Mosley says "but you fought oscar at 147, how come i can't fight him at 147?'

Roach says something along the lines of: Oscar's not you. implying that mosley was better and they needed him to drain himself to have a chance......

                    BIG DIFFERENCE!!!!!

                    • Demanding that an opponent cut weight is the equivalent of saying "I can't win without help".

Should Ward have fought Dawson at 175lbs or did he need help?
