No one is talking about what would have been a waste of time rematch...
I'm not talking about before or during the presser with Pac. I'm talking about the before the fight with Foreman AFTER THE FIGHT WITH PAC. During those pressers. Where he said he felt fine against Pac there was no excuses and after Foreman if there is any good offers he would go back down to WW....Pretty much saying he had no trouble AT THAT TIME to fight at WW. However, fast forward to what you mentioned. He didn't want to sacrifice his body "AGAIN" insinuating he did the first time. When before he said he was OK AFTER THE FACT not BEFORE but AFTER.
I expect Dawson to do the same thing...Even if his body is just as good as Cotto body was at that time...I expect Dawson to give the weight excuse if he losses. It will be interesting though too see how fans would react to that excuse.
cotto out his own mouth said i will not sacrifice my body again so wht do you think he meant when he said that?
what i find funny is when people say he only had to lose 1 lb compared to his last fight as if a fighter is at the weight he weighs in at until his next fight comes up
What do you think he meant when he said right after the fight with Pacquiao that he was 100% fit and not weight drained. Was he lying? Why would he lie??? Years later all of a sudden he was weight drained for the Pacquiao fight. Damn right I think he is lying and making up BS excuses for the loss and trying to drag a much smaller man up to 154. Pacquiao's team said right after Margarito that he would never fight above 147 again and he is sticking to it.Good for him. He already KOed Cotto. Cotto needs the rematch, not Pacquiao. The Pac haters want him to fight Marquez at 135 and Martinez at 154, anything to get him beat. He beat Cotto because he is a better fighter than Cotto. Cotto outweighed him by over 10 pounds when they stepped into the ring. Get over it.
Pacquiao is also criticed for fighting De La Hoya at 147lbs, not a catchweight also.
Come on bro, use your common sense. Manny wanted it at 143lbs so obviously 147lbs was out the question for him if he wanted that fight, which he did, so he chose to play soft ball and caved in to Manny's "I'm not a real Welterweight, no 147lb" demand and tested the waters a bit.
He knew at that point 147lbs was not an option and even 146lbs would still be too much but 145lbs is all he knew he could make, he had to stand firm on 145lbs because beyond that he can't make weight and this whole time Pacquiao was asking for 143lbs which was borderline unrealistic for Miguel for that time.
At that point Cotto, the WELTERWEIGHT Champion (147lbs not 145lbs), decided I'm sticking to this and if it ain't gonna be you then who's next? of course Bob Arum gets in Manny's ear, they take 145lbs which is STILL an issue for Cotto to make considering he had to work off 2 extra pounds from an already heavily SELF TRAINED (no Steward nor Diaz), muscular frame (muscle is harder to lose) with no fat or water weight
It probably didn't make the WHOLE difference but you can believe for sure Cotto would have been a much better fighter that night had he not had to overwork

As for the Andre Ward comparison? well there is no comparison, the guy you're comparing Dawson to in the whole Cotto-Pacquiao debacle is Cotto yet Dawson asked willingly for those stipulations they weren't counter offers to much more de****able demands, it's not like Ward said come to 165lbs and Dawson had to respond with 168lbs which is basically how the whole 145lbs demand from Cotto even came about because he was counter offering to something far more disrespectful (143lbs for the WW title!) to him as the Champion.
Can you lay blame at Manny but not at Andre, I find it hard to believe you can, unless you apply double standards.
I seen numerous posters criticise Pacquiao for his fights against, Cotto, Margarito, and for wanting the 2nd fight against Cotto at 147 lbs, but very few people criticise Ward for not fighting Dawson at 175 lbs
If anything Pacquiao should be criticised less.
After all he had already rose up through 8 weight class and could not reach the weight limit of the division he was fighting in and he gave away weight advantages in the ring against Marg and Cotto.
Ward on the other hand is a big super middle and can easily make the light-heavy limit.
Margarito was a carrer welter and was very comfortable at 150 lb.
Cotto a former light-wetler and only had to weigh in 1 lb less than his previous fight.
Dawson on the other hand is a career light-heavy, definitely not small at the weight but now has to drop 7lbs to face a top p4p fighter.
So can you crticise Pacquiao but not Ward and not show blatant double standards?
Poll Coming!!!
You can put Ward in that boat too. What you won't get, is people crediting Manny for the sake of your thread.

I seriously hope this is a joke thread....
Miguel wanted 145lbs from the beginning. His own words.
