Not the kind of strength that heavy lifting does.

Weight lifting strength has ZERO to do with power.

    In a name: Tommy Hearns.

There are skinny amateur guys that weigh 130lbs that can knock out a 200lb guy. Some people carry that kind of power. If heavy lifting had anything to do with power, then every boxer would be heavy lifting to get more power. The majority don't because it doesn't.

    Think about it.

      1) khan is NOT dead lifting 4 plates of 45s, thats what powerlifters do, and he is not pulling that much weight, sorry vcvc, no one that knows a little about powerlifting is gonna believe you...

      2) deadlifting will not help khan to become a better fighter

      3) deadlifting does not increase punching power, the only thing that MAY increase punching power is full body olympic lifts (Power clean & jerk, and power snatch)

I remember hearing about a program where they would pit various athletes against each other out of their element.

Joe Frazier failed miserably when it came to weight lifting.

Guess what happened when it came for their turn to fight?

I hate to break it to you but curling 65lbs is not a huge amount. I can curl that and I don't even consider myself strong. And I aint some big puncher either.

it has alot to do with how stiff you can make your fist at the end as a punch lands, along with the obvious technique is a must

more muscles doesn't always equal strenght, you can be lean and very strong

you can also lift without gaining much muscle considering you do it right, the stronger you are the more potential to hit harder, but the more muscle the heavier, the slower and harder it is to keep your technique intact, it's more difficult to "snap" your entire body and carry stable kinetic energy

agreed. 65 pounds is a nothing weight in terms of punching power (curls in general have ZERO to do with punch power)

alot of people think that people who can lift these crazy weights are automatically these massive punchers. I lifted weights maybe 8-10 times in my life, and I can still crack without weight training. its about speed and technique, not how much you can bench or squat or deadlift...

First of all, Khan didn't lift that. Anybody who does weight training will know that's for show. However, i'm not hating, cool pic. Also, for you people who are saying lifting weights won't increase punching power you don't know what your talking about. Lifting weights will make you hit harder it's just logic as long as the person has the speed and technique to deliver that power. But sure if he did ONLY weight training and let himself get all slow and tense it will hinder some of his power.

This is going to be a really good fight, but I think it will go to decision, I don't see either fighter winning by KO.
its gonna be a good fight IMO....BOTH dudes will have their moments...at the end of the day, in my heart I got this a draw....with a gun to my head, Khan takes it!!
