I don't even have confidence Pacquiao-Mayweather would break 2 million anymore. Good possibility, but not the certainty I used to think it was. So I was expecting this type of number for Mayweather-Cotto, and relative to everything else this is a fantastic number.I won't disappoint your prediction. I am disappointed and thought that with the extra Canelo-Mosley co-main event being advertised heavily, it would be close to like 1.8-2Million buys.
What makes me curious is to know how many people actually watched the fight, not homes/HBO PPVs, I mean people. I'm talking about the 20-30 people watching 1 TV, fight parties, the people in the UK who don't have to pay to watch it, the Phillipinos who don't have to pay. The streamers, etc. I would not be surprised at all if 10 million+ people actually watched this fight.
You're probably right about the number of people who watched, but didn't buy it. I was one of them.Comment

What your comment boils down to is that it's a better business decision for a professional boxer, who boxes to earn money, to remain idle and not fight for $60+ mill rather than fight for the offered $50 mill...........???And by the way, with respect to Arum and Pacquiao...Mayweather SHOULD NOT accept 50/50! Of course fans are saying "ACCEPT 50/50" because they just want to see the fight, but from a Business Standpoint that would be ****** because Pacquiao don't generate as consistently as Mayweather and his ticket prices are MUCH CHEAPER, that is like paying a Hollywood Superstar to star in a movie...then giving him a % of the movie earning at the box office...The Studio would just go and find another actor to accept the Role for the terms they are offering...its the same thing with this fight...Pacquiao don't want to accept the terms, you move on to the next opponent and you still put up great PPV Numbers, Mayweather has plenty of options if he choose to continue to fight because he has a great business relationship with GBP and GBP has plenty of fighters on their Roster to throw at Mayweather
We was told for years that Mayweather was scared of Cotto as well...but what happened as soon as Cotto left Arum? That Fight Gets Done Right Away!
Even though either figure is far above anything ever earned before by a boxer, for a single match.Comment

You think Pac has walked away w/ that INCLUDING arum's & roach's & Ariza's fees?? Not to mention the 300 people he travels w/ every fight....I actually wonder wut manny nets. Floyd has a large staff as well...but he has no promoter. I actually wonder wut both men net. These numbers always fee inflated like the forbes lists. With Floyd's 32 Garaunteed Plus these type of Numbers, He probably Made a Cool 60 Million From this fight... Ask Pacquiao has he ever made HALF of that in a Fight,LMFAO! With PPV and G'teed Purse Manny has Probably topped Out at 20-25 Million... Floyd is Obviously the Bigger draw holding the Top 3 PPV in revenue generated. 50-50 Doesnt make any business sense what so ever when You look at the Numbers. Mayweather vs Pacquiao Probably makes 150 Million. sPlit that 70-30 and Manny Still Gets 45 Million...Arum is Making 25 Million a Fight off Pac Now. He wants a Peice of that 150 Million, Even though he still owes Floyd $ from The Zab Judah Fight. GTFOH!Comment

Another way to look at it:Have to say a little underwhelmed by these numbers. You have the #1 and #3 PPV draws and all they can manage is 300,000 more than the reported Ortiz numbers? Couple that with Shaefer saying just a few days ago it was trending toward 2mil and it didn't get anywhere close to that.
Can't say disappointing as they are still good numbers and it was an entertaining fight, just underwhelming for what many thought it would do.
The #1 and #3 ppv draws had TWENTY PERCENT higher sales than the #2 and #3 PPV draws.Comment

Naa nobody knew about Ortiz. HBO would make Martinez out to be THE MAN that WILL beat Mayweather. They will exploit the fact that he is the MW KING and coming off back to back to back KO/TKO's assuming he wins his next by ko/tko too...
It will do the same or better as the Ortiz fight did IMO which is still good numbers.Comment
