Calslapghe was too busy hiding out in Wales and fighting Eurofraud minor-leaguers to come out and fight Jones when Roy was in his prime.

get the point...when you are older alot of the time you lose to fighters you would have beat in your prime, kinda hard to argue with 15 years of dominance and he won titles at 4 weights and beat 14 champions by 35
And the same applies to Jones opponents. But they still beat him in similar situations. It wasn't like Jones started getting destroyed by young bucks. He was getting beat by his contemporaries.

And when you have to start preaching title belts and weightclasses during the last few eras of boxing you lose me. They have become one of the least relevant barometers of a fighter's status.

And Hopkins is no where near as good as he was ten years ago while Mayweather has clearly slid (see Saturday's fight).

Calzaghe fought Jones after he saw dude wasnt half the fighter he used to be, get real....same as Hopkins wanted the fight after seeing dude lose all those fights in a row, it aint no coincidence....Honestly both guys get lil to marginal credit for those wins...look at Hopkins who really waits 17 years to fight a rematch? It aint all on Jones, Calzaghe wasnt pushing with no fight with Jones, they both been at the same weight or one weight class apart since the 90's....every big name Calzaghe beat was past prime....Hopkins, Eubank, and Jones...its never gonna be as impressive beating a guy when they are almost 40, like it would be in their prime

Hopkins has to be carefully matched to win. There's a reason he lost twice to Taylor (a much younger fighter).

In Mayweather's case, while he has fought younger guys none of them have been particularly good. Ortiz is a joke ffs.

Lets be fair. Jones didn't want to fight them in the other situation. A combination of the fact that Tarver and Johnson beat him already and money troubles are why he was finally willing. It would be like if Manny or Floyd lost. Their willingness to make that fight would escalate.

I also think what Calzaghe did against Kessler holds up pretty well.

So you can deny everyone ages different?

I was impressed with the Kessler fight, he beat a young prime undefeated champion....still more impressive than beating older past prime guys

Still don't think Hopkins lost to Taylor, but that is neither here nor there. Yes he has lost, but he has also beat some good, solid opponents.

As to Ortiz. If he is joke, what do we call the majority Jones' list? It works both ways.
