Note I said most not all.
I appreciate boxing skill and ring generlship..... but I rather a good old brawl than 2 ****erpunchers. unless they are boxer punchers like Marquez, Gamboa, Mares people like this is keeping this sport alive.
so if you ask me yes mexicans in great part are keeping this sport alive....hell even May weather said it in New York and I quote: "sorry Puertoricans mexicans are the best fans with puertoricans close 2nd"
Mexicans and Puerto Ricans love their boxing just about as much, in my opinion. If Mexicans are the greater fans, it's only because there are so many more of them.

As for style preferences, I like boxer-punchers best. The traditional Mexican fighter comes forward and is willing to "take two to give one." I appreciate the approach, especially when a truly classic battle ensues, but I consider the fights more a test of will than of skill. Counter-punchers tend to be overly defensive. Their style requires perhaps the greatest skill set, but they're under-appreciated by the average fan. It all comes down to taste; but I believe, as with everything else, the higher the understanding, the more refined the taste.

Cubans are no where near the level of Mexican boxing fans.

Hell filipinos in sd blow out the cuban fan base here in miami.....
There are several identifiable reasons why Cubans aren't as much into boxing as Mexicans and even Filipinos. I've participated several times in such discussions here over the years, so I'm not in the mood right now. Suffice it to say that Mexicans have had the opportunity to fight professionally for decades, therefore building a strong interest in the sport. The Filipinos have Pacquiao. A superstar like that tends to rally his people in great numbers.

Cubans are not interested in futbol, so that point is completely irrelevant. Any pursuit Cubans have ever cared about we've excelled at. Baseball is a passion in Cuba, and we've produced great athletes and teams. Futbol is a passion in Mexico. Please tell me how many World Cup titles Mexico has won? How many finals has she reached? How many semi-finals? Quarterfinals? I'll wait....

You say that you follow boxing and that you know the sport better than most Cubans you know. So why is it that you make the ridiculously ignorant statement that we produce "nobodies in boxing"? Cuba has several ATGs and Hall of Famers, despite being excluded from professional boxing for decades. We have Gamboa, Lara, Rigondeaux and Hernandez, among others. And let's not even talk about amateur boxing. Cuba has been the juggernaut in international amateur boxing for many years.

This is true. Also, imagine how many more great boxers there would be if Cuba allowed them to fight as Pro's worldwide. There would be more prospects, more champs from Cuba. Always great seeing them in the Olympics...without them, Olympic Boxing would fall short.

I still cannot understand how when Cassamayor won the amateur title, the mayor gave him a Bicycle??? He sold it for a Pig to feed his family. That weighs heavy on the heart. A Bicycle for representing Cuba in the Olympics. What a low blow. They should have given him money and a car.

Anyone with a reasonable level of intelligence can infer that Cuba would've produced some greats in the five decades since Castro outlawed professional sports on the island. In recent years we’ve had a few of our athletes defect. It’s pretty clear now that Cuban amateurs can indeed have significant professional impact.

Most people outside the system don't know the level of hardship that even the most accomplished Cubans on the island have had to endure. It's only gotten worse over the years.

That is incorrect. I don't know what those clips are all about, but Mexico has never won a World Cup. Winners of past World Cups are as follows: Brazil (5), Italy (4), Germany (3), Argentina (2), Uruguay (2), England (1), France (1) and Spain (1).

The link below provides all the facts:

I'm not trying to make Mexico or Mexicans look bad. I have love and respect for both. My message was in response to a post that was intended to make Cubans look bad.

mexicans power house in boxing bull****......

if you really think that Mexico is a boxing power house it's only because Cubans weren't aloud to fight in professional boxing. if we were to have the opportunity to fight more freely in professional boxing it would be a different story. i feel like over the years in boxing we would have more champions than any other country. just my opinion not a fact of course.
