I'm not crazy about The Ring. They're a hell of a lot better than the sanctioning bodies, but not always necessarily right on other things.

Who is the Ring editor now anyhow? Collins I think? Seems like Farhood was at one point. I know he was the editor of some of the Ring Magazine books.

The Ring passed over Judah on the cover though after he won the Welterweight belts, pissed me off. The only time they skipped over someone who just won the undisptued titles as far as I know. WTF? Think it went from Hopkins to umm Trinidad I think. Skipped Zab! Why Ring?! Why?! Zab deserved his cover! GRrrrr

      Ha.

Sales man. Sucks, but Trinidad sells and Zab doesn't. And yeh, it's Nigel Collins.

As far as their rankings go, I know that from time to time I disagree with the lower half of the top tens, but overall, they're the best there is, and when they say a champ is a champ, then you know he's a champ.

Didn't they say Vitali was the heavyweight champ though? I totally disagreed with that. There was plenty of argument to call Byrd or Brewster the champ. So they're not always right with champ either. But yeah, at least they didn't say f'n Oleg or Sinan Sam was champ, or even ranked.

I do want to see Rahman vs. Maskaev 2 actually, so Rahman can avenge that loss, just not if I can see Toney vs. Rahman instead.

so from vk using it once, you make it sound like they both use it on a regular basis.

                    Common agreement:
                    1. HW division is ****.
                    2. We have 6 people who are ranked on the top

                    Bozo's opinion:
Unification will produce the linear champion

                    My opinion:
Unification will produce another paper champion. HW will not have "THE" champion until young blood will clean up the division.

No further arguments will change our opinions IMO.

By the way, I already said it in another thread just now, but I don't believe that Ruiz will participate in the unification tournament after Dec 17th.

lemme guess......Vitali unifies division when he returns right?

man, yo boxing knowledege and concept really sucks brah.

I totally disagree with you here. After Lewis retired, the only person who had a win close to justifying the title in the heavyweight division was Klitschko. After all, he knocked out Sanders (who was admittedly overweight and underplanned) who deserved his number three ranking for knocking off former number one contender Wladimir Klitschko. Vitali, of course, deserved his ranking for holding Lewis, who was coming off the best win of his career, to a stoppage on cuts, and then knocking out lower-echelon top-ten Kirk Johnson. The fact that he only defended once was a bit hard to justify, but note the class he revealed by surrendering the title when he realized he would be putting the division on ice for ANOTHER six months. They picked the best fighter for the position based on his latest performance after Lewis retired. It makes perfect sense if you have a long memory.

Think about it, at about the same time that Vitali was beating Sanders for the title, Byrd was being held to a draw by unranked Andrew Golota, and Brewster was outlasting Wladimir, who wasn't within spitting distance of the top-ten. I mean, they couldn't award the title retroactively to Chris Byrd for beating Holyfield, nor could they award it to Brewster for squeaking into the top-ten by beating a guy who had just been knocked out two fights before.
