No one defeated Vitali, he retired, Rahman hasnt defended his gift belt, and Ruiz and Byrd were ranked under Vitali, so they are next in line. Byrd,Ruiz,Brewster and Rahman need to fight each other to determine who is the best, but until that happens, Ruiz and Byrd are ranked ahead of Brewster, because they were ranked directly under Vitali until he retired. I dont think I can make it any more simple than that.

There were no set difinitive rankings anywhere.

Vitali's belt was also a gift in that he fought Corrie Sanders for it.

The only thing that matters now is who currently holds a title, and Toney and Wlad.

That's the core group that need to fight it out.

Everyone would have a differnet opinion of the order, but I think it can be agreed upon those are the top guys.

So no one beat Vitali, and he remained the best for that brief period of time, Rahman was supposed to fight him but he retired. Therefore,Rahman, and the three other beltholders need to fight each other to determine which heavyweight is the best, and UNTIL THEN,( still reading slowly?) You keep talking about some magical ranking that doesn't exsist.

There were a lot of people who ranked Brewster above the other three because he fought more frequently agaisnt better competiton.

Since Lewis retired, the rankings have been very subjective.

Because none of them fought each other, it left a lot of room for debate.

This is still the case, but it now seems like unification my be a step closer.

We can hope at least.
