I think Martinez is better than Bute, but the size difference would be too much since Bute is no scrub. There's a difference between fighting a big guy who's not AS good at a lighter weight class, than fighting a great big guy. Honestly, it just doesn't make sense. At a certain level of competition, size DOES matter. It's the same reason nobody should realistically expect Martinez-Pac to happen. Pac MAY possibly (up to debate) be better, but Martinez is good enough to where the size will matter. The only reason Pac is ever brought up by him is because of the way Pac went about getting Martinez's title...he wanted Foreman's title til Cotto beat him..then backed off the 154 talks til Martinez "vacated"...Anyway.. Same thing with Bute and Ward..ESPECIALLY Ward and his smothering and sometimes "dirty" ways (I'm a Ward fan, don't take offense).

Dibella is jumping the gun though with his comments and again making Martinez look bad. Let Martinez handle his business, challenge who he wants, and if they don't want the fight, then step in and do your job. Martinez is trying to get a "legacy" fight in before retirement, it's obvious. Martinez doesn't shoot up to #1 p4p with a win over Bute. He does with a win over Floyd and gets paid..and will get SERIOUSLY paid the fight after. If Martinez were to beat a Floyd, it would be remembered for a long time. If he beats Bute...who cares? Nobody outside of Canada likes Bute (exaggeration), and Ward is better than Bute. Ward and Martinez, all things being equal would be a great fight. But Ward holds a noticeable advantage in size. Until Martinez fights a 168 pounder or fights at that limit, I don't know why people are hating on him. Ward beats him, not because he's guaranteed the better fighter, but because how good he is in combination with how big he would be in comparison. Chavez Jr nobody cares about because he sucks and it's a winnable Martinez fight despite the size, but he just so happens to hold the green belt that Martinez (even before Chavez Jr was int he picture) has dreamed of and holds great pride in that belt..according to him that is.

Still amazed people think he went life and death with Macklin. :|...

Muscle bound has to do with his "frame" which is the word that you used. If you meant height you should say height. And yes they are the same size. Fighters in the same division are often different heights from one another. So your assertion that he is smaller than any other fighter in his division is totally false. And all of the things you say about his reasoning for fighting Dzinzurick at middle weight helps to prove my point that Martinez prefers to fight as a middle weight over jr. middle weight.

This. The double standards are plain laughable. It's one rule for Sergio, but another for everyone else. Manny Pacquiao, who could only tip the scales for a 150lbs fight at 144 lbs - yeah, BRING HIM ON! Lucian Bute, a guy 8 lbs north of my division? Oh, no. I'll fight Manny, who is 16 lbs lighter than me (fight-weight), but I won't fight Bute who is half that much bigger than me.

DiBella's as big a joke as Arum!

But when bigger fighters WITH BOXING SKILL want to fight him, THEN THAT'S NOT FAIR LOL!!

Chavez is 6'1, he was bigger than Rubio who is 6'1 too, and Chavez weights more than many Super Middleweights at fight night, with an average weight per fight of 183lbs.

Andre Ward is only 6 feet tall, here with 6'1 Carl Froch

Is this not the same as Mayweather and Pac though? I mean Mayweather fought an aging ODLH and now a ring worn Cotto at 154 but not Martinez. Pac fought a zombie-esque Margarito for Sergio's belt but wont fight Sergio because he is too big? You really think it has nothing to do with Sergio also being quite good?

I think Martinez deserves his big money fight, dont know why people would begrudge him it

then he should grab Floyd by the balls and drag him to sign a fight contract. You know Floyd would come up with 1000 reason not to fight him. Funny how floyd first said in earlier interviews that Cotto lives too far away. What bullshiiiit Gayweather comes up with just to duck somebody. Now Cotto is all soft and ripe for the picking, suddenly PR is not too far away.

Martinez fought a fighter in Pavlik who was 6`2 and weighed 178 pounds on fight night.Ward is 6`1,Lucien Bute is 6`2.No excuses.

Martinez is just cherrypicking guys he think he can beat, and he`s just looking for a payday against Floyd and Pacquiao.

Sergio & his manager need to fight in their weight class. They are starting to remind me of the playground bully, always want to fight the small gut in the class until the guys brother shows up then he run scared. Punk ass Sergio afraid to step up against the not much bigger guys like Ward & Byte.

Martinez needs to move up for his superfights. Pac did it with oscar, Floyd did it with Oscar too.

Stop being a wimp Serg, the guys you are calling out had to move out of their weight class to get their superfight too.

You're comparing a fight with Oscar to fighting Ward/Bute
