classic example. Everytime Wlad wins a decision, you get all these people crying they he should have gotten a KO. Then like tonight, when he gets a KO they STILL cry. 57-3 50 KO's
Billy Conn was a former middleweight. There's no excuse for a heavyweight fighting a former middleweight.
If you want to get technical Conn started his his career at 16 weighing 135lbs. He actually proved himself by beating top 10 rated contenders though at heavyweight.
20 page thread....build it and they will come....they will piss and moan because they have nothing better to do. Yall just have to hate and hate and piss and moan about the HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP. sad
Troll threads are the best for getting a ton of traffic. Unfortunately most of the time they're short on any sort of reality from the thread starters though. Just sayin.
As I do with you my friend. Its called a difference of opinion. Some of us can get along in spite of this...others cannot. I think you and I do ok though.
Sure Louis was decent to watch but he did have a "bum of the month" thing going on. Maybe so with Mormeck and we will never know. Just know that to me this fight wasn't all that to get excited about BUT it's ok to fight a tune up from time to time. That I do not blame Wlad for. Let's hope he picks a top 10 opponent next time.
I don't think you understand what the "bum of the month club" really was. First off it was a term coined by the press. Second, it was a six month period where Louis fought six times and three of those times were against top 10 rated opposition. Think of the difference here. Wlad has fought six time in just over 3 years. Thats less than twice a year when Louis was fighting once a month. I think Louis can and should be afforded a little slack given the pace he was fighting.
And I don't really blame Wlad for the Mormeck fight. If that is all thats available to you than you have to do what you have to do. But I don't think myself or other can be blamed for thinking he's boring. With every advantage he had he should have had Mormeck out of there in the first round, but he's tentative, does not go to the body to create openings and clinches at every opportunity. It works for him against the guys available, but it just isn't exciting. Against a guy like Mormeck I expect a public execution given his advantages not only physically, but in skill when he chooses to use it. Do you not think that's a valid criticism?
I like Vinny too btw. It's ironic that Jones gets so much praise for beating him considering he was really blown up at the higher weights in his career.
Paz should have never gone past 154. If had never been in that car wreck he probably wouldn't have either. Check out his fights with Gilbert Dele and Lloyd Honeyghan if you haven't seen them. Those were Vinny's two best performances in my opinion.
I agree. Wladimir is a top 20 heavyweight in my opinion. He's been much too consistent and dominant to be denied a place among the greats. Although he may not be top tier. He has earned the rank of excellent heavyweight champion.
Not sure about Vitali yet, will wait and see how the Haye fight goes.
A Haye fight does nothing for him. The guy will have been out of action for more than a year and never beat a decent heavyweight. The only fight that can help Vitaly is Wlad.
Although it wasn't a fantastic division it was still certainly solid there were still a few very good fighters involved.
Billy Conn, Jersey Joe Walcott, Max Schmeling. Just to name a few who were good fighters and better than anyone Wladimir has beaten.
Conn was skilled but he was still a career middleweight who moved up to heavy. If Wlad had fought Calzaghe do you think people would have seen it as a legitimate fight and a great win? What if he fights Ward?

Depends. If he murks a game Haye then it's a pretty big win for him in the public's eyes. Haye has cache with the average boxing crowd that he really shouldn't have, but whatever. He could also notch up a few wins over guys like Helenius or Dimitrenko or just keep fighting and winning into his mid fourties, which may or may not be feasible. He is in a bit of sucky situation though, I agree.

So did Chambers. You still hear people call him a bum and a midget though. Unfair?

It would make more of a difference in this era due to the actual size of the brothers. They are not even "heavyweights" they are "super heavyweights." Joe Louis would come in around 200 pounds for his fights. Billy Conn was also a very good LHW, therefore only moving up 25 pounds. It's probably the same as Wladimir fighter former Cruisers if you go by how big the disparity is/was taking into account Louis/Wlads weight.
