Not a good idea imho, Floyd seems to have forgotten just how brittle his hands are, just because he hasn't had any hand problems of late doesn't mean he can't have them in the future, especially fighting someone who will be weighing 160+ by fight time. If you look at the pictures of both Cotto and Floyd's fists, Cotto has much more bigger and a more solid bone structure to his fists than Floyd. Floyd just needs to stick to what he knows best which is "speed" sure he's a bit stronger now than in the past, but he's never going to be a big puncher like that, Cotto is and has always been a big puncher and hits a bit harder than Mosley who came close to KO'ing Floyd, early...

Mayweather by stoppage. Dem cuts and swelling.
Cotto would have to go to the body practically non stop for a while before he sees the effects. Like it or not, Floyd is SOLID and is easily one of the best conditioned boxers in the sport...that and his style lends itself well to fatigue since he doesn't need that much footwork if he tires...not like we've seen him ever wither from a body shot or even close to it... Whenever someone hits floyd to the body it looks like they're hitting a brick wall. He doesn't even flinch, it's insane. Sucks, but give credit where it's due

This is one of those cases in wich you say, "Becareful what you wish for"
As long as cotto dont wear Grants, he will be good to go!
Mayweather wants no excuses from the boxing world.
First he fights Cotto at his weight 154lbs.....takes away the weight drained excuses
Second he states that in his mind Cotto is undefeated because of the hand wraps incident with Margarito and the fact he drained himself down to 145 to fight for his WW titles at 147lbs.
Third is that he does not want everyone to take apart what the first two statements are by simply saying well he said statement one so he could get Cotto into 10oz gloves and statement two he said to hype the fight more.
My take on it is this you have a great champion at 154lbs who likes to leave it all in the ring. A champion at 154lbs who has two losses (although one is questionable and the other can be written off to weight issues) fighting a undefeated champion at 147lbs who has held a belt at 154lbs and is considered to be top P4P. Why are we even getting upset about anything that is being said? This fight is great for boxing.
As for Floyd I think the time he spent ojn the side lines helped his hands heal some. If his hands are feeling good and he is able to sit down on his punches more and throw them more often his punch out put will increase and we will see some exchanges.

Floyd knows exactly what he's doing when it comes to boxing ... that cannot be said for the armchair pseudo-boxer's on the forum who continuously make these bizarre statements.

Cotto can certainly crack, but I wouldn't necessarily say Cotto hits harder than Mosley. They both fought Margarito and for 11 rounds Cotto threw everything he had at Margarito but didn't come close to stopping him
then Mosley went up vs Margarito, drops him and finishes him in 9
**that might be just one example, and granted Mosley looks a bit past it at this stage in his career but when compared to Cotto I feel that Mosley is the more explosive devastating puncher where Cotto is more of an accumulation/break you down type

He doesn't have to diet while training, or dry out any to make weight (95% of boxers diet and dehydrate before a weigh-in). . .
A slower and fatter Cotto is easier for FLoyd to potshot and tenderize.
