Catchweight Biases Against Pacquiao

If it was a "one off" thing or an isolated instance,it wouldn't matter...but to have a catchweight fight for someone's belt at a weight that suits one guy over another....that is annoying.

To have a catchweight for a vacant belt when you haven't earned it nor have even fought in the division is disgraceful-especially towards the fighters that do fight in that division that should have earned the shot based on merit.

Nobody is asking Martinez to move down in weight-Martinez is practically begging these guys...

it's not like pac was fighting at 147 for so long and all of a sudden he decided that he'd like to have the fight with cotto at a catchweight. pac was moving up from 140 lbs (he weighed lower than that against hatton), so they had a catchweight at 145 lbs to accomodate pacquiao who was seen as the much smaller guy. It's no different than chavez sr who moved up from 140 lbs to fight for whitaker's WW belt at a catchweight of 145 lbs.

the margarito fight was bull**** though not just because of the catchweight, but more so because it was for a vacant title and both guys hadn't really done anything at 154 lbs like you mentioned.

It seems like an unfair advantage to you and all the rest of the haters because he's not your favorite fighter and he's not an American. How would you know Henry Armstrong's intention? You were barely born when Armstrong passed away. Anyways, what dumb ass would agree to fight a much bigger opponent. Boxers only sign up to fight bigger fighters for one thing, to earn a bigger paycheck. To fight a much bigger opponent like Pacquaio is famous for poses a greater risk. This is why Pacquaio pushes for catchweights, it's called being smart. That's why you hate Pacquaio, because he's pretty smart despite growing up dirt poor. Why don't you hate on Oscar for signing up to fight a "midget." Cotto fight was 2 lbs under the limit he looked fine untill Manny put him on his ass. Cotto didn't lose because of the catchweight, he could not see where the punches were coming from. Cotto was my favorite fighter, but he doesn't have a granite chin.

I know Armstrong never asked a fighter for a catch weight in the division he competed in...... Pac is a WW for DLH but then for Cotto he's too small??? Manny is a full fledged WW small one yes but that is the division he chooses to compete in.... If 47 is too big there is always 40..... Armstrong didn't have that luxury

Side note: You really don't have an argument against it..... Not when Freddie Roach is on YouTube stating why he/they are for them.... If it didn't happen already it was at least brought up in each case

My problem is, Manny had no problem making 147 for Oscar, but he asked for 145 for Cotto.I would rather people either let the champ come in at the limit, or don't call out the champ..

Like 3 years ago. Not the long...Don't even know if they still do it or not. But, it wasn't that long ago. And, I don't think the state of Pennsylvania was doing to accommodate Pacquiao but I might be wrong and they probably were. Since everything revolves around Pacquio to some people

The state of Pennsylvania still go by the same day weigh-ins except for title fights. Which makes sense since in titles fight you go by the ABC rules.
