Really, I had no idea. But seriously the 80's are gone. Along with it the remnants of same day weight ins. It was considered dangerous for the fighters. It's time for fans like ya'll to wake up.

Consider this, it seems like around 75% of boxingscene believes Pacman beats Cotto at anyweight. But turn right around & say they don't understand why Pacman won't fight him somewhere in the middle. Or why he needed 145 to begin with. I know why, it's staring me in the face.

I don't really have an opinion either way of whether it's good for the sport or not, I don't know enough, but the danger comes in guys draining themselves to make weights they don't belong at, which is a problem today. Look at Brandon Rios. He would have had to move up long ago if there were same day weigh ins.

145 for the first fight was fine. Cotto wasn't exactly a big welterweight, and it was Pac's first catchweight, so I didn't have a problem. It's not like Cotto looked bad, he looked exactly the same come fight night. I really hope Cotto doesn't give in and fight Pacquiao below 154 though. Pac should either fight Floyd, fight Bradley, or GTFO. Don't try to fight fighters who campaign at 154 if you can't make 154 yourself.

Cotto hurt Manny a lot. He's face was looked far worse than when Morales beat the **** out of him. Manny had to eat a steak to tip the scale in that welterweight fight. It ain't no scam. Manny's team is just doing what's natural to spare their guy more punishment. Why don't you try fighting guys bigger than you, see if you'll feel the same way about catchweights!

All you need to ask is,

Of all the fighters who demanded catchweights throughout history- Chavez, De La Hoya, Meldrick Taylor, Sugar Ray Leonard, etc... how many of them had gone up more weight or weights than Pacquiao had when he had his catchweights at WW and JMW, having started at JrFW?

Also how many had larger differentials in weight to make the catchweight-

Pac went up 13lbs to 147 for DLH,
          DLH was moving down 3lbs

Pac went up 7lbs to 145 for Cotto,
          Cotto had to lose 1lb

He went up 5lbs for Margarito,
Margarito came down 4lbs...Pacquiao weighed 6lbs less at the weigh-in

Manny fought Margarito at 150, yes, but Margarito is slow as fudge. Cotto hurt Manny a lot. He's face was looked far worse than when Morales beat the **** out of him. Manny had to eat a steak to tip the scale in that welterweight fight. Manny's team is just doing what's natural to keep him from getting seriously hurt. Why don't you try fighting guys bigger than you, see if you'll feel the same way about catchweights.

You don't know enough, but follow it with the bold bro? Brandon Rios does need to move up. But that's not what this is about. I don't need to here anything about same day weight ins concerning Pacman. It is as you said though. If Pacman won't fight in a weightclass as the opponent he picks, leave that man be.

Yes that's exactly what it is

You know the state of Pennsylvania still does same day weigh-in...Or was at least doing it in the most recent years. But, I regress....It is to accommodate Pac.

It's not like Floyd would be at 147 with same day weigh-in either or anything.

I think sugar ray leonard won his light heavyweight title at a catchweight, pernell whitaker defended his welterweight belt against chavez sr at a catchweight (but fight was a draw..but controversial draw)...Most recently canelo beat matthew hatton for the 154 lb vacant belt at a catchweight. I'm sure there were other title fights at a catchweight though.

SRL that's right. He won 2 titles from 2 different divisions all in the same fight.

Cotto Asking Martinez to drop to 154.
Martinez asking Ward to drop to 164.

                      Why oh why?
If it was a "one off" thing or an isolated instance,it wouldn't matter...but to have a catchweight fight for someone's belt at a weight that suits one guy over another....that is annoying.

To have a catchweight for a vacant belt when you haven't earned it nor have even fought in the division is disgraceful-especially towards the fighters that do fight in that division that should have earned the shot based on merit.

Nobody is asking Martinez to move down in weight-Martinez is practically begging these guys...
