Cotto would be a fool if he accepted this (unless he's in it for only $). Hopefully he realizes he has other options and says no and we won't have to waste the first part of the year with a pointless fight.

well said good sir. . . Cotto would get obliterated weight notwithstanding. .

i hope pacquiao doesn't even make an offer to fight at 147 pounds. i'd be disappointed if pac chose to rematch cotto at ANY WEIGHT, rather than pick bradley. Bradley is who he needs to fight. . .

No, he's actually doing much worse than what Mayweather did back then...Much much worse. You can't even compare it.

And, at the end of the day there isn't anything wrong with catch-weight in this era. It's not like the old days. Now you get a whole day to re-hydrate yourself to a healthy weight.
The prince was a money machine at the time, and it weren't for leverage, but more so to get on that money machine, to stardom. Stardom is what Mayweather been after his whole career, i remember dude was at 135 trying to call out Dela-hoya. Don't see anything wrong with catch either, but the legitimate question is...does he use it for advantage in the ring or he just use it to get the money fights? I still feel Marquez fight was use to rile up the public's anticipation of May-Pac showdown.

Cotto tried to force Margarito down to 150. They agreed on 153. Obviously Cotto does not consider himself a true 154-pounder.
            I don't believe that.

Mayweather would fight him at 154, just like he did Hoya.

Pacquiao gets vastly outweighed at welter, but weight a minute he's not hindered enough let him move up to light-middle.

Guess this shows how high even the haters rate Pacquiao.
If he already is hindered at 147, then he shouldn't try to fight against a guy who's fighting right now at 154. I don't like a fight with Peterson or Bradley either, but at least they won't be completely weight drained as Cotto would be.

90% of what you said is spot on, but I can't condone your thought process of "there isn't anything wrong with a catch-weight in this era...whole day to re-hydrate." This is not true. There is such a thing as "overshooting the mark" when the bigger man tries to make a lower scale/catch and the body doesn't respond to the 30 hrs of normal rehydration from scale to bell/(Rd 1), and actually makes you sick. And then there's the 2nd rebuttal to your statement in that a modern day catchweight can give a greedy promoter (insert Arum here vis-a'-vis Pac against Margarito) the opportunity to cheat history and claim a world belt in a division never fought at the limit.

If RJJ fought Ruiz straight after the first fight with Hopkins and came in at just under 200lbs I'm sure he would be a bit sluggish too.
Fact of the matter is that the catch weight was in favor of Marquez like it was for Pac against Oscar, Cotto and Margarito.

It's ****** to just discredit everything manny has done because he didn't end 2011 strong and he's not looking good with the current negotiations for the mayweather fight.
Margarito and Cotto dont count. If you need a catch-weight to win a title then you are an absolute fkn joke. Why would a supposed P4P fighter need a catchweight?

Catch-weights don't count, and neither does The Ring Magazine, so Pac did not win a title at featherweight either. We are down to 5, and I have not even considered rubbish like the win over Diaz.

GTFOH, you have lower standards than a $5 whore.
