  • Yeah, because Pedro Diaz won't make any difference in Cotto's corner as opposed to Joe "I had never been a corner man" Santiago....

If they do fight a 2nd time it'll be a much more competitive and close fight.

And Arum is too smart to give DiBella and Martinez the ammunition of shredding Pac's image with a 150 catch scale for Cotto 2. So unfortunately we 'fight fans' are looking at a 148 or 149 (tops) catchweight of Pac vs. Cotto II.
Exactly, Pacquiao cannot fight Cotto at 150, because Martinez will call Manny a cowardly b1tch.

Cotto has to accept 147 for that fight.

I really hope that Cotto tells that hypejob to go *** himself.

catch my drift bud? cotto wants this fight.

if pacs wants to fight someone at 154, he would jump to that weight class
Cotto does campaign at 154, and according to Jinkee, Pac wants Cotto..... but b1tchiao just wants to disadvantage Cotto, like he did last time.

There is such a thing as "overshooting the mark" when the bigger man tries to make a lower scale/catch and the body doesn't respond to the 30 hrs of normal rehydration from scale to bell/(Rd 1), and actually makes you sick. And then there's the 2nd rebuttal to your statement in that a modern day catchweight can give a greedy promoter (insert Arum here vis-a'-vis Pac against Margarito) the opportunity to cheat history and claim a world belt in a division never fought at the limit.
I can't think of a catch-weight right now where I felt a fighter was at a disadvantage so much so that the outcome was affected by it. Maybe Oscar-Hopkins but hell Hopkins came in at 156 instead of the catch-weight of 158 just to prove a point.

And, it's not so much the catch-weight that makes you cheat history, it's the multiple titles and bogus ranking like Pac-Margarito...If Pac-Margarito was at 154, Pac still cheated history by fighting a guy who wasn't ranked in the top 30 at JMW.

And, again I don't see any issues with catch-weights with day before weigh-ins...Maybe if we had same day weigh-ins sure.

Back in the day there were 8 divisions, now there are 17....... so NOW, there is NO JUSTIFICATION WHATSOEVER for needing a catchweight.

Back in the day a small welter would be out-weighed by 20 lbs if he fought a large MW, that simply cannot happen now, so catch-weights have no place at all in the modern game.

Surely that hypejob Pacquiao can find a division that suits him ?

Armstrong would p1ss himself if he read your post.

                Absurd.

I got a better idea, keep those opinions to yourself, as well as any other "idea's" that you may have that will achieve absolutely nothing other than further devalue standards within the sport of boxing.

Sorry, we seem to be getting on as of late, but I cannot listen to comments like that without reacting...... don't tell me that you did not expect to cop some flak for trying to justify catch-weights.
He has and it is 147

Pac is a small welter, so much so he gets out weighed by every welter he fights by like 10 pounds

in fact vs margo wasnt he like 144 on the weigh in and around 148 on the fight while margarito was at 160-165?

If you have a 147 and 154 champ, if the 154 champ wants the 147, he has to go to him, if they both want each other then say like a compromise at around 150-151

just like last time when cotto offered 145, he will offer 147 here yet everyone will take it the wrong way

come on man, put your hate aside

                  no no no

pac was told of 3-4 fighters who wanted him, he picked 1 and will give the shot at the the number 1 or 2 spot depending on how you see it. Pac is not chasing cotto, everyone is chasing pac

same applies to floyd mate, everyone will be chasing him, when he goes for a fight, golden boy will give him a few options and he will choose 1

This is like hatton and mayweather, floyd was the top dog, hatton wanted a piece of him so challenged him at 147

cotto wants pacman so he will challenge him at 147, last time pac was 140, so cotto challenged him at 145

                    You must be new.
This is such a silly post. At the time both Judah and Baldy (someone you forgot to mention) were both ranked higher than Margarito, at Welterweight. While Baldy was the lineal champ at 147 coming off one of his biggest years.

Ricky Hatton was the undefeated 140 champ who was coming up in weight. Something a lot of people forget, mostly the new surge of Pacquiao fans that have been boxing fans only since 2008, is that this was a fight that was talked about while both and Hatton were both campaigning at 140. But since Mayweather moved up to 147 first, and later came Hatton, suddenly Mayweather was the bigger man and was taking advantage of poor small Ricky. Hand picking him if you will.

There were other factors as well. When Margarito finally made a name for himself in 2006-2007. Mayweather had just split from Top Rank, and wasn't gonna fight any Bob Arum fighters, as Arum would not have played fair. (Sounds similar doesn't it)

And Paul Williams was a baby during this time. Unknown to the boxing world. HBO who Mayweather fights for wouldn't have paid for that fight. Blaming Mayweather for not fighting Williams at that time is just ridiculous. Its like blaming Cotto for not fighting Maidana in 2005 when both were at 140.

                    • This fight sucks. Cotto ran like a scared kitten in the first fight I don't want to watch that lame fight again. Especially not if Cotto has to drop down to 147 after moving up in weight for 3 fights already. Pac sucks ass if he doesn't fight Tim Bradley or Floyd.
