Most overrated? My signature has a few but here are 4 of them and some reasons.
Pacquiao: He isn't a great welterweight by any means and has and will always struggle with fighters with solid boxing fundamentals and movement. Plus some fans also think that he could beat some of the greatest fighters from 135-147 which is just ******.
Mayweather: He just isn't a great welterweight by any means, although he was one of the best @ 130 ever, and is completely past his best. Not completely, but he has REALLY gone down hill since the Hatton fight. His legs are shot, he moves in straight lines only, every time he is hit clean he's stunned now, and people also think that the 147lb Mayweather could be competitive with some of the best at 147 which is ******.
Martinez: Martinez is just incredibly overrated. Plain and simple. It's pretty obvious that the Pavlik that fought Taylor would have definitely destroyed Martinez but of course, he was a drunk mess when he fought Sergio. It's also clear that Martinez struggles BIG TIME with fighters who will pressure him behind a jab as well as a sharp defense and with fighters who are good with right hands. Darren Barker, who is good but pretty basic overall, was handling Martinez very well and winning rounds before he stepped off the gas like he always does and got caught with a shot behind the ear. At that point, I had Barker up 6-4. I believe that someone such as Golovkin, Abraham, a fully prepared and top shape Sturm, and possibly even Cotto to some extent could really trouble and/or beat Martinez based on their styles.
Donaire: Ever since his win over Montiel, Donaire is truly the most overrated fighter in boxing. Not only do people believe that he can just go up to 130 and beat everyone with ease, but they also believe that he could beat some of the greatest fighters in those weight classes as well. Donaire can't fight off the back foot good at all, he is confused with fighters with good defense (Narvaez and Mthalane), his power is vastly overrated (Alejandro Valdez nearly and should have had a stoppage win over Montiel), and he has leaky defense. His whole style is based off his natural athleticism and the fact that he is bigger than his opponents. Moving up though, I am quite confident that solid fighters such as Gamboa, Garcia, Nishioka, and Rigondaeux would take down Donaire.
Of course, I really like watching all 4 of these fighters but they aren't as good as they're made out to be.Comment

Damn good post son, long but good & I wouldn't argue against your points. Most overrated? My signature has a few but here are 4 of them and some reasons.

U like Bute bro?Now you are changing the premises of your argument? lol
So according to you Ward is going to annihilate Bute? You know this how? Bute isn't the greatest technical fighter but I give him a chance over anyone else based on his power. Ward is not dominating his opponents contrary to popular belief. Ward does have his holes in his game that are waiting to be exploited. Im curious to see how Ward will react to Bute's body work and testing Ward's gas tank
Difference is that Ward was in a tournament, against a consistent skill level of fighters , and Ward didn't get to "choose" who HE wanted to fight, thats why they say, and rightfully so, that he beat everyone they put in front of him. He didn't have the excuse "styles make fights", he took on what ever they had. Bute in the other hand, beat everyone he picked lol, just like the top two guys in the p4p list(Manny/Floyd), and they got the nerve to say they're ATG's because they beat guys they selected, and don't lie to yourself, it's the truth!Last edited by CasualBoxingFan; 12-30-2011, 06:26 PM.Comment

I consider Bute as overrated as Ward. In a fight? I like Bute's chances working the body and testing Ward's questionable gas tank.U like Bute bro?

cotto imo. i dont mean that his legacy is overrated, in his prime he was a beast and built a very impressive resume. but he hasnt been that fighter since the first fight with margarito and some ppl still havent figured that out yet. if he had any other US promoter than arum he would have been beaten into retirement long ago.
pirog also gets overrated, the guy beats a decent prospect and all of the sudden the MW champion of the world is terrified of him. pirog needs to go out there and earn a shot, he might have the WBO belt but he nor jacobs deserved to fight for it in the first place. dude is a paper champion in every sense of the word, he hasnt proved jack **** in terms of earning a shot at maravilla.
pascal is overrated too. he fought froch when he was half the fighter he is now and he fought dawson on an off night, wouldve been knocked out regardless if it wasnt stopped on cuts. i dont like to make excuses or take credit away from a fighter but its just so obvious. dawson would humiliate him in a rematch. and the crazy thing is i kind of like pascal, hes an entertaining fighter, ducks nobody, hes caribbean and his random crazy outbursts outside the ring amuse me incredibly. to think of it it might not be so much that pascal isnt all that good, its just that hes surrounded by killers at both 175 and a division south that make him look bad by comparison. he does have alot of flaws though, alot of talent but alot of vulnerability.
robert helenius. i said so all along, long before chisora put a whuppin on him. the man is all hype, they putting him in there with guys who are washed up beyond belief to make him look good but in reality hes garbage. cant fight for ****.
not overrated:
ward is as far from overrated as you can get, im not gonna argue with you on it though. im gonna sit back and let ward do it for me by becoming p4p king and the face of boxing in the coming years.
butes resume might be weak compared to the super six guys but the man can fight. bute has some serious skills and if he was in any almost any other division he would dominate everyone. purely ability wise (excluding resume) hes a top10 p4p fighter imo no doubt. the skill is there yall wills e shortly, if kessler hadnt ducked the fight yall would be singing a diffrent tune already.
more fighters out there but those two are the main ones. excellent fighters both of them, by no means overrated.Comment
