Bute needs to fight Hopkins or Cloud next if he wants to increase his resume.
Bute has been fighting guys coming off losses for the last few years. When will this guy step up and fight a live challenger as opposed to fighting someone's left overs.
This Mayweather-led fad for calling anyone who has lost a fight "someone's leftovers" is just pathetic. All the best fighters lose sometimes, and most of them fight better in their next fight than they did before losing, not worse, due to wanting to redeem themselves - unless they were badly beaten up, which Froch certainly wasn't.
When Hopkins beat Tarver, did you consider Hopkins to be Taylor's leftovers? Ridiculous.
Froch is no one's leftovers. He's by far the best possible opponent in Bute's weight class right now, and his loss to Ward will just fire him up and make him perform better in his next fight, in order to redeem himself.
Going up to another weight class right now would be a bad distraction, which would reduce the momentum for a 168 showdown, not increase it (as happened to Williams when he started fighting at higher weights and everyone at Welterweight then refused to fight him because he wasn't fighting at Welterweight any more).
Bute-Froch is what is needed, followed by Bute-Ward. Light Heavyweight fights can follow after that.

Tomatoes, tomotoes.... You think Froch is fine coming off a loss, while I beg to differ. We'll just have to subjectively disagree.
But another point that you've missed about Froch is he's just been in the SS for the past 2 years and has fought P4P one of the toughest schedules for the last few years. You want to throw him right in there with Bute with no break? Come on man, let Bute fight Hopkins or Cloud. Forget that going up in weight stuff.

It's easy to tell which posters you can bother to pay attention to.

.
What would you call Mendy when Bute fought him?
Mendy was "destroyed" by Bika in the first round before Bika bailed him out. How do you explain Bute fighting Mendy in the very next fight?
I agree that fighters lose and it's perfectly normal. I'm not saying that because a fighter lost then they should be considered a bum; nor am I saying that fighters can't bounce back after losses. I just don't think they're at their best against top competition after a loss. I know you think otherwise, but hey.
Once again, Froch has been fighting the toughest competition for the last 2 years, while Bute's schedule hasn't been remotely close to that.
If Bute beats Froch, do you think it's fair to count his win over Froch considering the the circumstances (i.e 2 years in SS) or would a Cloud/Hopkins win hold more weight?
I know he was a mandatory. But the man was just done in by Bika in the 1st round. Granted Bika bailed him out, but Mendy was done.
Don't get me started on mandatories, considering what's been going on with Canelo. They're corrupt. They give mandatories to who they want to give a mandatory too.
