It's time for everyone to admit that Margarito cheated

There's no leg to stand on any longer, the reasons just keep piling up. Lets take a quick look at why Margarito would cheat against Shane Mosley but not Miguel Cotto.

In the Shane Mosley fight, as we all know Margarito was caught for illegal wraps. Looking back at this fight we will notice that Margarito was a huge favorite(why cheat), had homecourt advantage, and all the confidence in the world from winning the biggest fight of his career. One of the reasons why he was a huge favorite was Shane Mosley, an old guy that most thought was washed up and done was coming off the Ricardo Mayorga fight where he looked very poor except for the last few seconds and like I said Margarito was coming off his biggest fight, a fight where most spectators considered Margarito some kind of monster.

Rewind to the first Cotto fight and you see the direct opposite. Cotto was young, coming off impressive win after impressive win, and was a 2:1 favorite coming in. Margarito was an after thought, this was Miguels coming out party. Remember Margarito before hand was fighting on Miguels undercard versus a guy named Golden Johnson. This was his last chance and he certainly couldn't afford another loss(already had 5 going in).

So why? Why would a guy cheat in a fight with all the advantages possible but not in the fight where his back was against the wall? A fight that he had to win?

Fast forward to last nights fight, more evidence. Margarito was landing the same punches and it clearly didn't have the same power behind it. Power is the last thing a fighters losses, yet it wasn't there. People are quick to point out that Miguel was still swollen but Miguel was swollen against powderpuff Yuri Foreman. The fight against Margarito has left his skin very tender and he's going to swell no matter way, so that argument goes out the window.

It's sad that he had to cheat, it really is. IMO, even a confession isn't enough because the damage has affected the way Miguel fights. It made him gun shy in the Pac fight and derailed a career that could of been legendary. It's sad, it really is but I'm glad the book is closed and Miguel can move on but people need to accept that on that summer night in 2008, there was illegal wraps used.

It is long but everything in it is true. Pac battering Margaritos eye helped but what did you expect? You can't make excuses like that. Most people knew the eye was a target and expected to this happen so props to Miguel for making it happen. Even when the eye wasn't closed Miguel was picking up from the rounds where he was destroying him in the first fight but with better movement. Margarito was picking up where he left off but with far less power in his gloves.

Couldn't give you green again yet but great posts! I agree with pretty much everything you had to say here.

And I don't think Cotto was running either. He was boxing beautifully and also slipping a vast majority of Margaritos punches when he was backed in to the ropes, then slipping to his side and spinning Margs around. There IS a huge difference in running (which is pretty much what Cotto did in the last few rounds of Pac) and moving. I was also amazed in the last round how, when Marg and Cotto were tied up, Cotto was actually the one that was over powering and pushing Margs back into the ropes. Amazing to me, especially since Margarito looked huge compared to Miguel last night (to me anyways) and this was late in the fight.

Cotto did a beautiful job of punching AND moving out. The only time I got a little nervous was when Cotto was on the inside and was leaning in, in an earlier round. I was afraid Margarito was gonna kill him with his uppercuts if he stayed doing that. Cotto did a great job of adjusting any mistakes he was doing and put on a hell of a performance.

Side note: I was a little surprised to see in a poll on here that over 50% of the posters on this site voted that they thought the stoppage was a bad stoppage. I guess maybe they were still holding out and hoping for a late round stoppage. But as far as I could tell (and I was watching from a stream so I want to wait until I see the replay on HBO) Cotto wasn't showing any signs of gassing or slowing down like he did in the first fight.

No bruises on Cotto's face last night and seemingly way less power in Cheatto's punches last night. Yeah that dude cheated.

You should check out the post fight press conference. Cotto IS definately bruised up, but there is a huge difference from the first fight. In the first fight, Cotto was ripped to shreds and bleeding massively. I think this actually might be one of the first fights in a long time that Cotto DIDN'T bleed or have a head butt or any other cuts.

Exactly. And the dumbasses saying that Pacquiao won that fight for Cotto... same **** can bee said about Margarito winning the fight for Pac after mentally destroying him with his cheating.

No, I think Marg is different.

RJJ was an olympic gold medalist that was robbed and given the silver. RJJ went on to win the heavyweight title after his failed test along with many other fights. Vitali did the same thing. He won consistently after his failed test.

Margarito couldn't even beat Garcia the way he beat Cotto. Some say he did that on purpose, but I call BS. Marg is 1-4 after plaster. Do the math.

For me it isn't so much that Margarito used illegal wraps anymore, now it's my confusion about people that continue to defend this guy's conduct and call him a "warrior" that has "heart."
