Pernell's first showing against Rivera was not ATG stuff. And Rivera was not that good. Above average boxing skills with a little pop.

Ty for posting your opinion but how many of them have you seen fight? Curious.

Rivera was one of the best welters to never win a belt, ever. He and Carr. Also- This was 2 weight classes higher than Whitaker's optimum, and he still won.

All of them except Greb. I have a ton of books as well that I used to compile the research.

good lists imo though i disagree with vitali not at least being a honourable mention for the greatest chins.

i certainly wouldn't have prince naseem 3rd on the punchers list

not entirely sure ali was faster than floyd patterson either though both guys was lightning fast for h/w's.

I made these lists awhile ago. I agree Vit needs to be on there.

His showing against Trinidad was not good, either. Clearly lost.

Also, a case of "ODLH Syndrome" could be made about him, as he arguably could not win his most important fights.

                  Agree with bold.

I rank Pryor higher than Pernell, but that's just me.

How is that possible when one has lost to the two best opponents he's ever faced and the other has been KO'ed 17 times?

Pernell Whitaker and Jack Johnson were largely untouchable throughout their career. They may not have fought the most skilled guys but you can only fight guys in their era. I can see moving Johnson out of the top 10, something I've long thought of myself.

Ray Leonard, sorry but I'm firm on him.
If you can name me ten better fighters with better opponents (That they beat) then I may concede, but a it stands, with as little fights he had, he is a top 10'er EASY.
                      Top of my head;

                      Ray Robinson
                      Henry Armstrong
                      Harry Greb
                      Sam Langford
                      Ezzard Charlea
                      Archie Moore
                      Benny Leonard
                      Jimmy Mclarnin
                      Bob Fitzsimmons
                      Muhammad Ali

To be honest I'll concede that I actually found it suprisingly difficult to name 10 fighter with solely better wins than Ray Leonard.

The problem is there are so many fighters with much stronger depth of wins than him.

Ahh, my bad. He's right there at #19.

That being said, #19 is still criminally crimainlly low for a Top 5 ATG like Sam Langford.

Jack Johnson and more so Pernell Whitaker are both great fighters. But simply don't have the resume to justify that kind of ranking.
