Fact is, Floyd has fought a few times since Pac officially became the #1 guy and it hasn't changed any rankings (except maybe Iole's for a couple of days )
It doesn't matter to real fans. Just like it wasn't important for Floyd to fight for a belt when he beat Shane Mosley when Shane was the #1 WW.

You can call Manny Pacquiao the "Supreme Grandmaster Peasant of the Universe" for all I care.

You'll never convince a real boxing fan that a boxer became the #1 fighter in the world by exclusively fight 5th ranked fighters for that distinction.

You can claim that The Ring magazine, owned by Oscar DelaHoya and Golden Boy Promotions, has him ranked as #1, and it still makes no difference to real fans because we all know that Golden Boy makes 25% of EVERY promotion Pacquiao has. That was part of a settlement. So its a conflict of interests.

What it comes down to is who fought the top ranked champions when they were prime and coming off of wins.

Manny Pacquiao's last claim to that fame came in 2008 over Marquez, and even then real fans know that he didn't beat Marquez in either fight.

FYI Carlos Baldomir was coming off of a win over the #1 WW of the world when he fought Mayweather. Erik Morales was coming off of a one way boxing lesson loss at the hands of Zahir Raheem when Pacquiao beat him.

I know that you aren't that bright so I am doing my best to simplify this for you:

A win over a DEFENDING CHAMPION coming off of a win will always be seen as greater in value and glory than a win over a FORMER CHAMPION who is coming off of a loss in his VERY LAST FIGHT.

Hate it or love it ... FACTS are the MVP.

Previously, Oscar's biggest PPV match was against Felix Trinidad (1.4 million PPV's sold) and Hopkins (1 million PPVs sold) and Mayweather's was against Gatti (450,000 PPVs). So Mayweather suddenly picked up another 1 milion fans against Oscar because people wanted to see him lose? And you are also telling me that 1.1 million people thought Mayweather would lose to Juan Manuel Marquez? Ridiculous. Nobody in their right mind thought Mayweather would lose to Marquez and when Marquez headlined a PPV, he could only sell 200,000 PPVs, so people damn sure weren't paying to see Marquez.

Mayweather is the biggest attraction in boxing because he does a great job of marketing himself and boxing fans like to see him perform in what they expect to be competitive matches.
So, you still think Pacquiao-Marquez 3 will only sell 800,000 PPVs?

No fighter in history good or bad, has ever NEEDED that length of time to recover from a fight, in fact, a fighter, even after a tought fight, if he hasn't strained a muscle and his legs are OK can be back in the gym within a couple of weeks. He need not spar, nor exercise any damaged area. In my time, when we needed painful shots to travel abroad, we would still continue in the gym, but using only one arm on the bag. And of course, no skipping. Even sparred one handed against a 2 handed sparmate, just to keep in shape.

I'd bet that Mayweather is in the gym at least 3 days a week on a regular basis even if only for an hour or two. He prides himself too much on his regular fitness to do otherwise.
                Well said....

At that point, boxing had a legitimate P4P#1 who didn't need hype and catch weights to make a name for himself. Floyd never asked for special advantages like rehydration stipulations. Floyd never got beat by an aging B fighter either. Floyd had also never been knocked out by a C and D fighters.

So once Floyd took 2008 off, boxing desperately needed a star to be the face of boxing. There are few if any boxers competing today who have the credentials of Floyd Mayweather.

So boxing and the boxing media made one up.

It only behooves Pacquiao to avoid a fight with Mayweather. If Mayweather loses against Pacquiao, it won't change the fact that Floyd was the most dominant boxer since Roy Jones. Floyd fought the best in every division and came out unbeaten.

One win or loss does not make a career.

However, when you're career is largely predicated on 40 fights in a secluded corner of the world against men that NONE OF YOU or the majority of the world has ever heard of, competing for five vacant belts and using catchweights to hornswoggle the boxing world into believing that you are more formidable than you really are then yes ... one loss can completely destroy your career.

If Pacquiao takes the tests and loses, people will just assume that he couldn't pull the trigger without the juice.

If Pacquiao doesn't takes the tests and the fight happens, people will just assume that Pacquiao had the kool-aid in the veins.

Only by taking random USADA tests and winning in the same fashion that he has against EVERY OTHER BOXER will people believe that Pacquiao has been winning by talent and hard work alone.

Manny's fcuked. He knows it. Arum knows it. Roach knows it. Manny had his fcuking trainer get on the mic at the end of one of his fights to make a plea to let the state athletic commission handle it.

Arum has offered Mayweather tens of millions of extra dollars to forgo the tests and let Manny drink his wolverine milk for their fight. Then he had the audacity to release a statement to the press telling how much money Mayweather turned down to fight Manny!

Oh how the **** has hit the fan and blown up in Arum's face. He assured Manny that no one would notice that he's fighting Marquez for a third time and 3 years too late. Hahahaha .. even Arum knows that the boxing world is littered with weak minded peasant fans and pundits who continue to ride the Pacman express until he gets thumped out again like he did against Morales.

Then what? Peasants will say that "the little guy had a good run", but historians will ask "Well who the hell did this guy beat when they were on top?" Historians will ask "How many champions did this guy actually face?" Historians will ask "Why did he compete for so many vacant titles?"

Five vacant titles compared to three championship belts he won over legitimate champions.

5>3 in terms of number of belts, but only three of them are legitimately CHAMPIONSHIP belts. Fighting another contender DOES NOT make you a champion.

Call me a hater or whatever. The truth hurts and there are a lot of peasants on this site who willingly allow themselves to be misled for the so-called "glory" of their favorite fighter. Pathetic.

Real fans don't exaggerate for ANY fighter. If its on his record, then just state the facts. If its not however, leave the science fiction alone!
"The world is littered with weak minded fans"..... YES INDEED, and some of them...at least ONE, has had the temerity to lose his grip on that weak mind of his and rant away with the most ridiculous heap of balderdash and nincum******y that I've read for many a week. I DO see similiar every so often on these pages....maybe by the same guy under a different name.

I SAY, BROTHER JAY (no poetry intended) back...BACK to the monastery with you, to contemplate what a fool you make yourself out to be with your wild raving, and invented accusations of imaginary law and rule breaking. As well as an over grandiose image of a particular fighter who, if he wasn't hiding and avoiding the prosess server, would surely by now be in jail, or at least quite a few millions poorer.

So hoe your little cabbage patch, philosophise with Thomas Aquinas, and stop making a NOTICEABLE fool of yourself on these pages, although, goodness knows, it's done-to a lesser extent- on a regular basis. This is good advice I'm giving you.

What did anyone expect Ellerbe to say??? If he was on Pac's team and never met Mayweather, he would be fawning all over Pac and saying Mayweather was just a flash in the pan. This is just like having a trainer analyze a fight involving their fighter - of course they are going to say their fighter will win!!!!!!

I personally know more than a handful of people that rarely ever watch boxing but have said repeatedly that they will purchase the Pac-May fight because they want to see Pac "beat the **** out of that azzhole" and much worse. They all say he is a jerk and too boastful and arrogant and that Pac will put him in his place.

They would not pay for any other PPV fights except this one....they care less about Ortiz because they asked me if I thought Ortiz could beat him and I said I doubt it. It might be exaggerated a little bit but it does happen and it's pretty common.
