The mythology of Clay in the US has as much to do with politics, including racial politics, as it does with boxing. Probably *more* to do with the former than the latter.

Yeah maybe because I wasnt influenced by the US propaganda about Ali that I dont find him that great.

And most of his opponents were one dimensional bums (that includes Frazier and Foreman)

Clay/Ali is such a highly politicized figure here in the US that criticizing him is bound to enrage many people. Even trying to look at him objectively is almost impossible. It's herd thinking, and if you stray from the herd, you're going to get attacked.

He's calling guys like foreman and Frazier bums... Wake up. Has nothing to do with going with the herd.

I call them bums because people call Haye, Byrd, Chagaev, Chambers, ... bums

I feel Wlads opponents were more talented thatn Ali's. So if they are bums then guys like Foreman and Frazier must be bums to

I'm sorry, but that doesn't wash here. We're on a boxing forum.

And the most dispassionate and learned analysts here would (and possibly already have, if they thought it was worth it - I haven't read the thread through) raze the TS' pathetic arguments to the ground.

Much love to the Klitschkos, but a pox on this garbage-ass thread.

ChopperRead, you clearly dont belive that Ali is not the greatest HW of all time....so who do you be;eive to be thr 3rd greatest HW of all time after Vitali and Wlad (im guessing thats how you order them)................wait, let me guess, Lennox is the next best, I mean you subconsiously have to give him extra credit then he really deserves as he gave Vitali his toughest ever match...

I dont have a problem with people believing ali is the greatest HW of all time.

I have a problem with people worshipping him like a god and flaming everyone who doesnt think the same

Doesn't matter. The people here aren't immune to what I was talking about just because they follow boxing more closely than the general public.

I'm not getting ****** into a Clay/Klitschko debate, because to even think about that comparison is going to get one labelled a neo-**** and who knows what else very quickly.

The whole subject of Clay/Ali is mine field for anyone looking to do anything but add to the existing narrative. The only way to criticize him and not get pilloried is through the eyes of someone like Joe Frazier, which HBO did fairly recently in a very good special.
