Oscar was a great fighter but just short of an ATG. All the ATG's have one thing in common, the mentality of a born winner and the ability to dig deep deep when **** gets tough. Im mexican and I was a big Oscar fan during his run. He fought damn near everyone. Oscar has arguably the best resume of the last 15 or 20 years. Sure he lost some fights but the guy fought everyone. His only problem besides having an underused right hand was that he had a mental issue when fights got tough for him. If a fight got tough instead of fighting smarter and trying to figure out adjustments he would get frustrated and fight harder and then due to the frustration of not being as effective as he wanted he would think himself into tiring out and thats where the "Oscar tires and fades" thing came up. He did it to himself.

Oscar also gets hated on by people because he's a good looking guy with tons of success. He's the most financially successful boxer ever and a "5" division champion at their real weight class (i dont count the Sturm fight cause he lost that fight so he never really won a middleweight belt).

      Oscar fought :
      Whitaker
      Chavez
      Camacho
      Trinidad
      Mosley
      Vargas
      Quartey
      Gatti
      Hopkins
      Mayweather
      Pacquiao

Yeah he lost some of those fights but he fought everyone! He will be remembered as a great fighter but not ATG material.

I don't think it would be arong to suggest that 80% of the posters on here weren't watching boxing when Oscar was in his prime, so they've only seen him at his worst. Roy gets the same deal.

But honestly, Boxing fans and writers are the most unloyal nuthuggers in sports. It's not bad, it's just the nature of the sport.

In boxing, you're only as good as your last fight.

It's actually the opposite. He gets OVERATED due to his popularity.

Out of curiousity, does anyone here feel he actually won his fight with Sturm? I remember that fight clearly. Me and my roomate at the time put $50 on the line and he took Sturm. When they made the decision, he laughed his ass off saying "damn what a robbery but you still owe me $50". Does anyone recall Oscars face when they announced the decision and was put up on someone shoulders? Even he knew he didnt win.

I made a similar statement a few weeks ago. Agreed.

If any of the ATG's fought his schedule they wouldn't be undefeated either.

But to piggy back on your story, I was ready to pay my debt to someone after the Mosley II fight, then we heard the decision. hahaha I went from owing debt to being paid True story!

I think Oscar will be remembered more for his impact on boxing than his actual accomplishments, which is a bit unfair because he does have a great resume. He gets criticized for losing all his "big fight" but take a look at the list of fighters he fought and tell me who would have won the majority of all those fights? I would have taken a very special fighter to do that.

Oh and I just wanna say Oscar was absolutely robbed in the Trinidad fight and it was cringe worthy seeing all the lame Puerto Ricans celebrating like he actually deserved that W. LMAO

I'm not saying he should have been undefeated or lost ANY of his fights, but the truth is, he lost many of his biggest fights (including a loss to Sturm), and his achievements or lack there of are overlooked due to his popularity.

Oscar did fight Vargas and mayorga after tito put tips on them so i am reducing some credit for those wins. But Oscar was always fun to watch Imo, people always hated on him especially the mexicans in the neighborhood (which was the majority of the city lol) cus he wasnt a real mexican??? Fuuck outta here, Bottom line Oscar could scrap and his events were electric. Not a great but very good fighter. Thanks Oscar.

I see what you're saying. You're saying his 5 or 6 losses were the big ones. Some say he lost to Sturm including myself (even though he got the nod).

But here's my point. If Sturm was a big fight, then so was Gatti, Gonzales, Vargas, Quartey, Whitaker, JCC and Mayorga. See where I'm going?

Did he lose some big fights? Yes. Did he win some big fights? Absolutely.
