I don't think the majority of fight fans ever believed he was an elite fighter.....just a very exciting one.

You can say all the bad things you like about Gatti. And knock him for saying what he said about Roy. His profile as a fighter and status are really no less than Jones even though he is less in accomplishment. I bet Gatti has made more money in his career than has Jones. Jones fougt scared his entire career and shyed away from the better competetion. I dont think Jones was the ever the star people make him out to be. How many pay-per-view fights did Jones have? Ruiz, Tarver II, and III, that is it. All of which were lousy fights in my opinion.

He had the costum made style for Toney and Toney was not in shape. He won 8 rounds to 4 against a green Bernard Hopkins where I feel if the fight was 15 rounds Hopkins would have won. Hopkins was having success against Jones particularly late in the fight in a very similar style to the way Tarver had success against him.

Jones didn't impress me against Hopkins, it was Bernard who was landing the cleaner shots.

That's what's funny about criticizing Roy Jones. Roy Jones has to beat all opponents convincingly and if he don't, people says he's exposed.

Hopkins, Toney, Griffin, McCallum, Hill, Paz, Woods, Tarver, Ruiz...plenty of quality opposition.

Gatti is seriously delusional. The only thing exposed in the 1st Tarver fight was that Roy was going downhill and was weight-drained.

old? lol,,he was 35 when he got layed out by tarver. thats far from old these days. jones was exposed. plain and simple

You have to admit Jones' reflexes had diminished by the time he fought Tarver. Hell, they'd diminished when he fought Ruiz, you just didn't see it as much because Ruiz is slow. Anyway, your body slows down as you get older. Everyone figures that out, eventually. Roy has poor defensive technique. He was purely a reflex fighter. When his reflexes went, he started getting hit a lot more. Losing to Tarver exposed him as what? A guy who's reflexes had slowed down? At the age of 35 or 36, yes, Tarver is the better fighter, because his style is less risky for a boxer his age.

thats an ignorant statement if ive ever heard one.
roy jones has been making millions of dollars per fight for years now. roy jones accomplishments EASILY outweight that of c class fighter gatti, and rjj has fought, and beat better competition that gatti could ever hope to.
was gatti dlh a good fight? was gatti mayweather? unless you like one sided fights then no. gattis only accomplishment to boxing was fighting another c class fighter in a great fight. thats it. he doesnt have the prestige of rjj and never will

"if the fight was 15 rounds i feel hopkins would have won"
heres the problem with that logic.
                      the fight wasnt 15 rounds
the fighters TRAINED for a 12 round fight, and roy jones beat him
                      bottom line, no excuses.
hopkins doesnt make excuses for himself in that fight, so you shouldnt make excueses for him

also, its not rjj's fault that toney wasnt in shape. rjj dominated that fight, bottom line
