Listen, if you're a boxing fan then you know that Margarito wasn't anywhere near the best available at 147 or 154 at that time. Maybe 150? Not even that. Maybe if it was 2008 when that happened? I don't know. I'm trying to help you but if going by sanctioning bodies is what you do then I'm afraid you're hopeless. Try using your own brain instead of having Jose Sulaiman think for you.
jose sulaiman might not be a solomon................

he might have made some bad calls here and there...

but he has been in this business for so long................

so long that he had made some very good contributions to the sport....

at least respect the old man............

They fought the same Mosley and Manny faired better. Clottey was more of a challenge in 2010 than Mosley was.
clowns really...they were thrilled when floyd beat shane but were very critical when pac beat shane with the same dominating fashion. but what difference was there really in shane's performance? nothing...he's just a year older.

That's nice but we're discussing one of his bad calls. Margarito @ #1 ANYWHERE after losing to Mosley by fatality, suspended and then running his way to a decision over the 4,000th ranked fighter in the world.

        • damn it guys, stop comparing the results like that because its not so black and white. They have different styles so the result will be different and that is it. One guy is a pure boxer the other is a boxer puncher.

              • I see there is no difference between Mosley coming off a good win albeit with a lay off and Mosley having not won a fight in 2 and a half years.

                Ok, this is actually happening.

                • Where a guy is at mentally is a big deal in boxing, it really shuold not be overlooked and glossed over.

If a guy doesn't have it (it being a real fighting mentality and willingness to endure) a guy can not be successful and it can vanish in an instant even if a guy had it.

Regaining that sort confidence is a very tricky thing and against an elite guy it can easily get brought to the forefront, especially if there are past issues.

Cool, so whatever option works best in your BRAIN is what should be universally considered the best available fight. Thanks for clearing that up.

here's where using your own brain comes in. See...I watched Mosley's last fight...and that's why he was universally recognized as such by not just ESPN and Ring (what happened to sanctioning bodies, princess?) but by nearly everyone!
His last fight was Jan. of '09 and it was a fight against a drained Margarito who had found out that his career was in jeopardy before the fight started. The Mosley that fought Manny was the same Mosley who fought Floyd. Doesn't make sense that one is a considered a great WW fight and the other is a cherry pick. Shane was done in both fights.

Or maybe Berto was a better option than someone who hadn't won a fight in over two years? Just a thought.
Who gives a **** if he won against Freddy Hernandez?

Does Mike Jones beating Raul Munoz mean he's the best available for Manny now?

Yeah except Floyd was willing to find all that out when Mosley was perceived a threat. Manny wasn't. What else is new?
Except Floyd didn't perceive as a threat, otherwise he would've gone on vacation instead. He said it himself in an ESPN interview, Shane was older and he (Floyd) was planning on pressing the action because of this.

So there you have it, sweetie. Amazing what you can do when you use your own mind? Still letting Jose speak for you? @ Margarito being #1 by the WBC and having the gall to use that as some sort of back-up. Kill yourself.
I'm just trying to establish a baseline for how you determine who the best available is, was wondering if it was ranking by either sanctioning bodies, boxing publications, calibre of opponents, etc.

But now I know... it's your Brain
