Reasons why it would be good for FMJ to fight Cotto:

The fight would generate more PPV numbers than any fight available to FMJ outside of Pac or Martinez. More money for Money May.

Ring Magazine ranks Cotto the #1 in JMW, a division where they do not have a champion. If FMJ wins, he can proclaim himself as the man in that division. And... Cotto owns a belt.

He can prove to everyone that he is better than Pac by defeating Cotto more decisively than how Pac did it.

He can dispel the notion of some that he only wins in fantasy fights.

He will improve his ATG standing tremendously.

It is the only motivation that matters so if Manny P wasn't around I think this fight with Cotto would be the fight he was pursuing but Manny is the big draw and thus he is the prize,. We have been waiting for the FMJ/Pac fight for three years now and still no fight. How much longer do we have to wait? How many of the top WWs has FMJ fought during his entire campaign in this division? Stop being naive. He may eventually fight Pac, but when?
What I am suggesting is the next best thing if Pac and FMJ will not fight.

Based on this lame a$$ thread, you should be praising Floyd for taking Cotto on in a weight that had Manny running for the hills and letting Cotto use the punchers Gloves at a weight they don't normally use them at. Mayweather against any Arum fighter is never going to come off anytime soon..
