Even at 126 & above Pac was fighting the better opposition. He always had (in comparison with Guzman). Soto was a great win for Guzman, his best...all I'm saying is Pac fought Marquez instead and I don't think anyone can fault Pac for fighting Marquez (which is the fight fans wanted for 4 years).
You act like he fought Marquez four times in that span or something. He fought Morales two extra times for no reason and Barrera a second time for no reason. Not to mention a slew of homecoming fights. He had chances. Just didn't do it. And let's face it, Guzman was a better challenge than the fading Barrera and the emaciated Morales who got battered by Raheem.
oscar larios was also a title holder at 122 at the same time with pac and guzman. are you gonna question why that fight (larios-guzman) did not happen too? ****** thread
pac fought larios at a higher weight and was considered a tune-up.
"Las Vegas based Bob Arum is one of those who felt that the fight was lacking in style and excitement. Arum described the opening rounds as looking like it could be the fight of the year, but said that Guzman resorted to hit and run tactics for the remainder of the fight, a style which may have cost him a fight against Manny Pacquiao."
anybody that could box wouldnt get a fight with Pac
Yeah there was clear signs Morales was fading...I guess all the promoters and what not still wanted to sell a rematch though...
Well yeah, we know that. Morales didn't even win a round against Raheem. Disgraceful. But the hype for a Guzman fight was big right before Pacquiao decided to fight Barrera a second time. That was after he made Solis move up two divisions (and Solis had been stopped in his last bout) and fought Morales a third time. Everyone wanted to see Guzman or Soto. So he chose...Barrera .

no, what I'm saying is no one knew who Guzman was he wasn't fighting on HBO or Showtime. People who are unknown don't fight stars in boxing, you know that. There was only one realistic window of opportunity for them to fight and that was when Guzman finally got some good exposure on HBO against a solid opponent and that was Soto. Prior to that he hadn't fought in over a year and the most exposure he got was fighting on an undercard. As probably Guzman's biggest fan on this site he didn't do himself any favors in his career being so inactive, getting injured, promotional disputes, etc. It has always been frustrating being a fan of Guzman.

No one knew who Jorge Solis was either. Or Larios. Guzman was available and Manny chose not to fight him. End of story.
