Do you seriously think Marquez is going to make $6.5-$7 mil for a Zab Judah or Robert Guerrero fight? I would bet he wouldn't make that in 3-4 fights with the names being thrown out there for him. But hey, if Oscar is as dumb as he seems... it's possible
Marquez is not as much as a draw as Shane to Arum. Maybe he is not getting that much. How much did Marquez get for the Mayweather fight? Maybe he wants a title while he still can. We are all speculating here.

IMO a Pacquiao-Marquez fight does better business than Pacquiao-Mosley. If you recall (and most have seemed to magically forgotten) when Arum stated Mosley, Marquez, and Berto were the finalists for Pac just 4 months ago or so, everyone in the sports media and sites like this were writing essays, making polls, etc about how the world wants the trilogy, Marquez was the obvious choice, with a few stragglers calling for Berto. NO ONE wanted the Mosley match.

Now that Arum says Marquez is next, everyone (including Marquez) is doing a 180. Now no one wants it, Marquez is too old, too small, etc.

Regardless, Marquez won't make what he would've against Pac in 4 fights under GBP unless they are grossly overpaying him. But hey, more power to him and good luck with the rest of his career. He just needs to STFU about Pacquiao in the future since the opportunity was once again staring him in the face and he backed down.

people suggesting a pac-jmm fight at 135 at this point are dumb. pac has already outgrown that weight...he's going to be weightdrained. what's the point of going down to 135? to kill himself even before the fight could happen? right, so that morons yearning to see him lose could finally get their wish.

FYI, JMM was guaranteed $3 mil with Floyd with PPV of 1million and GBP was part of it. Not a bad number but not stellar. It was JMM's biggest payday. Uncle Bob is not gonna overpay anyone. And just because Bob said that he is first in line does not mean he will overpay as he got other alternative.

It was gbp that demanded the ost to stay consistent with what Floyd demanded and jmm was upset that gbp put that as part of the terms. And I'm not positive but I was pretty sure jmm didn't want a 50/50 split but did want a guarantee that arum felt was too high. Either way to suggest jmm was scared ducked or didn't want the fight is baseless and just plain ******. Right or wrong he just wanted what he felt was deserved. It was a great series of fights the trilogy IMO is expired and I'm glad jmm can walk away from it and continue to add to his great legacy. I'm also glad he's not going to have to end his career as arums slave and pawn.
I can't comment on the second part of your post, but I can and will speak about the first part. You are all wrong about your assertion that Marquez went to Indonesia to fight John to put himself in a better position for the Manny P. return. NO such thing happened.

The John fight occurred TWO YEARS afte the Manny P. fight, and HBO right away offered a HUGE $1.5 mill, split 50-50 for the return. Marquez turned it down saying he deserved the whole $1.5 mill, as he won the first fight. This was the biggest nonsense since $750,000 was more than the whole totla of all his fights up to that time.

There was terrific criticism of Marquez at that time, and many blamed his trainer/manager Beristain for giving him such bad advice. This controversy went on for months. In the meantime he took a "nothing" fight after waiting about 6 months for HBO to give him the money. They didn't. He had only ONE "nothing" fight the whole of the next year, and was sitting around twiddling his thumbs looking for a fight with anybody. No one was interestred and many wondered if he was going to retire as his career seemed over.

Out of sheer wanting to get another fight, and finding that a champion, Chris Kohn was available, he signed to fight him the next year, just 2 years (as I said) after the Manny fight. He lost rather easily. He got $32,500 total.

There was NO QUESTION of him fighting Chris John to put himself in a good position for Manny P. Manny P. had already gone on to bigger and better things, and the question of another fight with him didn't come up for a few more years.

The truth was he was a damned fool, just as he has always shown himself to be in money negotiations. Just as he has just shown over a proposed fight with Manny P now. Arum publicly stated that he had NO interest in signing Marquez, just as he had no interest in signing Mosley, except for the fight with MannyP.

Perhaps Maquez himself knows with the "new and improved" Manny's special ****tails and Top Rank control he'd have to cash out and ruin his legacy.

Marquez is wise to make the decision he did and take his name out of the running...for now..

Once Manroid takes the full random OST he "promised" he would along with Mayweather he may not look so "new and improved" anymore..

Then Marquez will call the honest Congroidsman out.
