SAMPSON LEWKOWICZ: "COTTO WILL FIGHT SERGIO IN SEPTEMBER"
"I have a verbal agreement from Bob Arum that Cotto will fight Sergio in September," stated Sampson Lewkowicz, world-renowned adviser of Sergio Martinez, as he gave FightHype's own Mike Juhas an update on the future plans of the middleweight champion. According to Lewkowicz, both he and Arum came to a verbal agreement that a bout between Martinez and WBA jr. middleweight champion Miguel Cotto would be much more profitable if it takes place during the latter part of 2011, after both fighters have had another opportunity to showcase their talents again.

If HBO won't pay to show him before September, DiBella should do a PPV like Arum does. And it would make very good money if it were in Germany (it could be held with officials from neutral countries); and by beating the clear #2 Middleweight in his own backyard, Martinez would further enhance his P4P credentials, which beating Cotto won't do. And it's about time the World Middleweight Champion defended against a genuine Middleweight.Last edited by Dave Rado; 04-06-2011, 02:19 PM.

Originally posted by Seleção No. 13 View PostWhat he's trying to point out is that Manny and Floyd were bigger draws back then than Sergio is right now. They both had PPV fights before even fighting Oscar and were considered paydays for DLH. Martinez, on the other hand, is one or two fights away from making his first PPV at the age of 36 or 37 years old.
Btw I'm not hating on Martinez, but I'm pointing out the obvious.

Sergio Martinez would put Antonio Margartio's head to bed at this point in their careers and he almost murdered Paul Williams in the ring with one punch. I think boxing nowadays is full of drama queens. Back in the day. Ray Leonard, Hearns, Duran, Trinidad, even Mosley would have lined up to fight Martinez if he was putting it down like that back then just to be considered the best. Now all we get is excuses on why they shouldn't and that he is not a PPV draw. Boxing is turning into a beauty pageant. Nobody wants to get into a real fight.
