first off, resume is more than just wins.

second off, i personally give more credit to guys who rule their divisions, fighting every different style and all contenders as opposed to ones who go glory hunting for the least possible risk/greatest by the middle of their career.

when bhop steps up in weight, it's not for a belt grab or to get an old "name: guy. (all money grabs aside) it's to beat the best in another division (tarver, pascal) or to fight another atg calzaghe).

I respect that a whole lot more than David Diaz, an ancient Mosley, clottey, an inactive margs who looked like doo doo his previous fight.

      • This shouldn't even be up for debate.

Hopkins is great but why are people giving him credit for fights he lost?

        Pascal, Calzaghe, Taylor etc.

Dude lost all of those bouts and people need to get over it. When looking at his resume, the only fights I use when comparing with other ATG's are Johnson, Trinidad, Pavlik, Tarver and maybe Winky Wright.

        Pacquiao by a country mile.....

The Pascal fight was a draw. But, I agree he lost the other 2. I don't really give him extra credit for losing against them.

Especially in boxing, because any human being who is in incredible shape at 112 or 115 pounds will have a very hard time retaining speed, power, and reflexes moving up two or three pounds. It is the equivalent of the eight pound weight jump from middleweight to super middleweight or welterweight to junior middleweight. That's why the weight classes are spread that way. Even with human beings in as good shape as all boxers are that's true. You're not backing anything up, you say because one fighter today is actually defending his lineal title that fighters at lower weight classes doesn't move up, that moving up isn't as impressive at lower weights.

Tell you what, go look up how many fighters like Tito Trinidad and Bernard Hopkins and Sugar Ray Leonard and Sugar Ray Robinson and Sergio Martinez and Paul Williams there are that have moved up from 147 to 160, and then go show me how many Pacquiaos or there are that eventually moved from 126 to 147. One is a 23 pound weight jump, one is a 21 pound weight jump. Yet you will find many more fighters have successfully moved the 23 pounds and won belts than moved the 21 pounds and won belts. In fact, Pacquiao is the only one I can think of. You can even move to 130 and say how many fighters moved up 17 pounds eventually to 147 to win belts? It's a list consisting of Mayweather, Pacquiao, and Hector Camacho. You really think that's because these fighters don't want to move up? You don't consider at all that it might be because putting on that type of weight is harder for those fighters?

But that's why his whole 'Title defenses' thing doesn't hold much weight.

20 defenses is impressive of course but then compare that to, again for example Monzon's 14 defences as THE champion, it's not even comparable.
