If the promoters cared at all, they would have used the $600k paid to them as an incentive to, you know, actually promote the event.

From reading your posts here, I understand that the venue is quite the ways outside of the city, and I don't know if there is any mass transit that can take attendees without cars there. So I'd suggest they offer shuttle service or something like that to those who don't want to can't drive there. Gas costs money too.

There are many many things they can do to create as much a favorable condition for attending as possible since at this point it looks like quite an inconvenience to go.

Giving away free tickets back fires as well. If people know they can just wait and get free tickets in the end, why pay know?

All this being said, I am very confident that this fight will easily go over 1000 (that's not even a worry), and a conservative estimate would be somewhere around 5k on fight night, hopefully.
No mass transit at all, a product of us being the Motor city (even now when people say our economy is terrible you would be hard pressed to say that if you saw all the new cars being driven around).

Well I am sure the idea wasn't for it to fail, I don't think the promoters have done much to sell in this area and considering the money from HBO and the guarantee there is little incentive for them to work hard in the area (considering one lives in Florida and the other on the west coast).

To me that would be the bigger problem not that the fighters are not from the area it is that the true promoters (aside from the Silverdome who is on the hook for 600 grand) are not even in the area to promote sales. To really sell a fight you need a lot of people working hard a team if you will, not a group that has never put on a fight being the only ones to promote.

The main problem with the Silverdome is there are numerous better places to hold events in the area, but still the guy bought it and is trying to make a go of it got to try and get what you can.

    • HBO messed up big time by paying these guys so much money they are getting. I know they are top dogs at 140 and they should be rewarded for fighting each other and all that. But I think HBO should've let it marinate a little bit more. They could've had Alexander fight Kizer Mabuza and Bradley fight Lucas Matthyse all on the same card so people could get familiar with them.

And I like Bradley and respect him. But I think HBO is crazy to give this guy a seven digit payday with only one HBO appearance under his belt. And the bigger issue than that is he's got no fan base to speak of. Alexander's St Louis fan base holds weight. But not as much as it did before he got that gift against Kotelnik.

              • Detroit offered the highest site fee! Not a good move on their part but that's on them.

This fight would have easily sold out in St. Louis.

They should have had the fight somewhere else if they don't sell enough tickets then the fight will be postponed and moved to another venue.
Yeah, I don't know why they decided to have it there accept for the fact that they are so close to St Louis...I guess they thought the Alexander fans would fill the place.

                    • LOL no way it gets canceled or postponed, if the Silverdome didn't come through with their 600k maybe (or if the check bounces) but I highly doubt HBO would let that happen.

It doesn't matter if zero people show up for HBO, they will show that shit anyways then let Merchant talk shit about it post fight (or even during).

Similar to Juan Diaz vs Julio Diaz in Chicago~
