If I remember,Holmes was in contol before a Van Horn left hook from nowhere caught him on the top of the head and he kind of stumbled over and was up at eight ready to go on but the referee counted him out.

I wouldnt expect you to of heard of Watson or Holmes unless you were a diehard boxing fan in the 1980s and early 1990s.

well i was only two by the time the 90s came about so it was kinda hard for me to be a diehard boxing fan at the time.

Lindell Holmes wasn't expected to trouble Eubank .. it was just another day at the office for Eubank and another easy win .. Holmes was worldclass but he wasnt in Eubanks class, but then again who was? No offence to the americans like Jarvis, Essett, Thornton and Holmes but they were not in the same class as Watson or Benn, and that means that they certainly werent in the same class as Eubank who had a 3-0-1 record against Watson and Benn.

I remember the Benn vs. Watson fight in 1989 was huge, they were the two biggest prospects in british boxing by miles and their fight carried alot of hype and was screened live in america for the americans to get their first glimpses of these highlyrated combatants .. the winner of Benn vs. Watson was guaranteed a world title shot at Mike McCallum ..

and I remember Watson was actually the clear favourite to win the McCallum fight, McCallum was the underdog against Watson, but McCallum pulled off his best ever performance to chop Watson down like a tree ..

Gary Stretch had good potential .. he came along as an unknown amateur and knocked out 67-0 George Collins and remember Collins was called "britain's best ever prospect" .. George Collins, yet another british talent who fell short bigtime, I really thought he would be great .. what the heck happened to that guy ..?

And Rod Douglas, what a shame .. people remember Watsons career being cut short but Rod Douglas was a huge prospect until Benn beat him .. I think Rod had 100+ wins in the amateurs with only four losses and won a Gold medal at the 1986 Commonwealth Games..

Rod won the ABA's in 83, 84, 85 and 87 .. he became the first man to ever beat the seemingly invincible Nigel Benn, doing so in the final of the West Ham divs in 85 .. in the West Ham divs final of 86 they met again, with Benn avenging his defeat by knocking down Douglas a few times and getting the win ..

Douglas' first ever loss came against Iran Barkley in the quarters of the world championships in 1982 .. but he then beat Michael Watson two yrs in a row at both the 83 and 84 West Ham divs finals and those who witnessed the Douglas vs. Watson amateur fights say that it was boxing of the very highest level .. Douglas's second loss had come at the 83 europeans final against some eastern european guy and he claimed that he was robbed .. and his fourth loss came when he was absolutely robbed against Shawn O'Sullivan at the 1984 Olympic Games ..

I really would love to see those legendary West Ham divs finals of 83, 84, 85 and 86 featuring Watson vs. Douglas in 83 and 84 finals, and Douglas vs. Benn in 85 and 86 finals .. anybody know if there is any footage anywhere ..??
