They called him the golden boy for a reason. Oscar single-handedly removed the Heavyweight's grip on the publics interest in boxing in the late mid-late 90s.

Without Oscar no one would care about Floyd or Manny. Theyd be putting 4,900 people in Vegas on BAD.

Floyd and Manny may sell more PPVs 10+ years later, but Oscar was the game changer that made that possible.
Manny had couple of songs, movies and a political career himself. The guy is highly respected and known in Asia. In terms of popularity, Asias billions certainly beat Americas millions.

    • ODLH fights made Pac and Floyd into big money makers. ODLH star power outside of boxing is unmatch. On top of that he was a top earner for most of his career

      • This one's easy De La Hoya. He was on the cover of EA boxing for years. Females loved to watch him fight. He has the love hate thing going on. People would pay to watch him lose or win. He could come back now and fight anyone in the welterweight to middleweight and draw 30k in any venue that could hold it.
Pac is benefiting from the lack of marquee stars right now. It is pretty much him and Floyd right now and Floyd is reluctant to fight anyone but his baby mama.

        • I'd say Oscar, because he did similar numbers to what Pac and Mayweather are doing now without half the benefits that technology today provide, and no 24/7 which he had for Mayweather, and that's it. It's definitely not obvious or clear though.

That fight against Mayweather was a huge aberration for both sides, with all kinds of circumstances creating that perfect PPV storm.

Lets put it this way, PacMan is Filipino and his fan base is many thousand miles away back in Philippines, most of whom cant afford to buy tickets to fly to watch PacMan fight. Oscar is American, a very large portion of his fans is in America.

Weve all seen both PacMan and Oscar fill out stadiums in America, I give this a tie with a slight edge to PacMan. However if we had to pick a fighter who would most likely fill a 500,000 seat hypothetical stadium in Philippines (with both fights happening at the same time and place), I highly doubt that Oscar could even fill 10,000 of those seats.......PacMan however would easily fill his (provided tickets are affordable to the poor).
Quit it with the hypothetical situations, when tickets are sold dirt cheap, who wouldn't go to a fight? DLH in his prime could have sold out Azteca Stadium (110,000 capacity, and this is a real stadium.) against Chavez [my hypothetical].

This ain't even a battle DLH is 10x more of a draw than pac. Even not in his prime he can still sell 2mil on a ppv.

                • DLH is one of the if not THE most selling attraction boxing has offered in history.
If Pac and Money fought 3 times the added revenue wouldn't reach the sales of an Oscar fight even if he returned today lmao.
Anyone arguing otherwise is ***** / ******* material. How does something like that even become a question? Boxing itself isn't what it was when it was DLH's prime.
Yes, Pac is the biggest attraction today, that doesn't mean ****.
Stop trying to idolize the man more than he already is, get off the nuts!

Believe it or not, most people are not boxing fans. Some athletes though transcend the sport itself in their home country, for America its Ali for Philippines its PacMan. Oscar hasnt gotten even close to this in his home country.

Put it this way, PacMan would be able to match Oscars attendances IN AMERICA but there is no way in hell Oscar would even come close of matching PacMan in Philippines.

It was the Latin Grammy not thee Grammy. And, I don't thin we went platinum either. Didn't Pac go like double Platinum in the Philippines?

If we going by who had the better singing career, Pac still has him beat.
