If the resumes were reversed, I would certainly make the same argument, if Pac was in semi-retirement and Floyd had just had an impressive performance.

Mosley was narrowly #1 and Cotto was narrowly #2, but there was virtually nothing in it, because Cotto had already beaten Mosley - they were really considered more or less joint #1s at that time, like the Floyd-May situation now. And Pac didn't just beat Cotto, he completely destroyed him. It wasn't the win but the manner of the win that got him The Ring's no. 1 spot.

Who he fought at welterweight is the only thing that matters, and he'd fought more top welterweights by far than any other welterweight at that time, and prior to the pac fight, had beaten all but one of them, including beating mosley.
it does matter when you rank pacquiao #1 by beating cotto when he just got beat up by margarito and won a vacant title from michael jennings.

It matters and it is very relative. Prior to margarito, cotto was the guy but when manny faced him he was not the guy and thus shouldn't have been ranked #1. Margarito should have been #1 then mosely should have been #1.

According to your logic, manny should have been number #1 at welter after he beat oscar because oscar once fought all the fighters and had the best resume at welter.

It don't work that way and the ring on the bs ands trying to get us to drink the koolaid.

dude...ur making **** up now. mosely was firmly planted on #1. cotto hadnt looked good in a fight in quite some time. it wasnt even like the pac/mayweather thing because both of them were clearly that much better. just because u felt it was that way doesnt mean it was.

oh yea,i remember everyone lookin at shane as the top ww and as a beast because how he beat down margo, i don't remember anyone sayin shane and cotto were joint #1.what i remember was people callin miguel a shell of himself and people were here complainin that he lost to clottey.what does cotto havin a close fight with shane before losin to margo have to do with shanes status?thats like sayin that if margarito became the #1 jmw paul williams and shane will be joint #1 jmw because they both beat margo

At that time, Mosley had only fought three times at Welterweight since his return to the division, and had lost one of those fights. His only win against a top contender was against Marg. Cotto's had fought and beaten far more top rated Welterweights at that time.

His run eight years ago is completely irrelevant.
