he could have stayed at 160 for a bit but 160 was a graveyard at the time too.

168 had some interesting names from britain.

but we all know how british promoters are at protecting their "champions"

amir khan would be fighting derrick gainer at 140 right now if he was still with frank warren.

Hahahaha. I think, to a person, the UK fighters were very open about how they felt about a fight with Jones. Except for poor Steve Collins who really thought someone was ducking him.

To an extent, yes. Universum practically controlled the WBO - there was no way he was giving that belt up. And the other high and mighty sanctioning bodies wanted nothing to do with that title which was, back then, something akin to the WBF. Too many sanctioning fees to go around. I just don't see the connection with Jones ducking Nunn or Michalchewski.

they were making good money fighting each other. it's not like roy could make them more money. no point in business-wise to take a roy fight for not much more money and hurt their reputation and future earning potential.

man , steve collins ducked joe calzaghe.

yeah he was dying to jump in there with roy jones.

I think Roy's resume is better than Benn, Nunn, Darius and Joe Calz.

they did the same thing to naseem hamed and other wbo fighters.

wbo back then wasn't what it is now.

now it's considered a major belt.

back then it was seen as just a minor org that european promoters set up so they can call their fighters world champions.

because of hamed and barrera and a few other guys that's how wbo became more recognized later on.

Jones ****ing refused to fight his mandatory contender. That is the epitome of ducking. What about that don't you understand?
