HBO tried to manufacture stars for him (William Guthrie) but that never panned out. To an extent, yes. Universum practically controlled the WBO - there was no way he was giving that belt up. And the other high and mighty sanctioning bodies wanted nothing to do with that title which was, back then, something akin to the WBF. Too many sanctioning fees to go around. I just don't see the connection with Jones ducking Nunn or Michalchewski.

they were making good money fighting each other. it's not like roy could make them more money. no point in business-wise to take a roy fight for not much more money and hurt their reputation and future earning potential.
