Yet, I get the impression that a lot of fans (particularly European fans) would still give him grief. Sometimes, no matter how good you are, you're still going to catch flack.
This what I think was the case with him too, some of those guys at LHW were actually good but he was just toying with them and was winning so one sided that he was doing promos in the corner during the round breaks.

Still it would have been split like with Wlad, he would have had ppl who hated him and said he fought bums if BS was around at the time and had ppl who praised him.

Everyone fights bums on their way up. Part of RJJ's problem was he was self promoted so it was harder to get fights. But the fact is he still has tons of legit wins over good competition, and made most of them look like fools. Yeah he has some ugly loses, but any sane person knows those losses were way past his prime. Fast fighters have short primes.

Good post except for that last line. Roy Jones was fighter of the decade and was pound for pound #1 for much of that time. His prime lasted a very long time.

Key point was: "on their way up", then you have to build you carrier and have to chose guys that will give you challenge but still loose to you until you get there. But RJJ had not excuse but greed to fight that security guard, the school teacher and the county clerk back after back. Money was his motivation and not fighting the best.
He was ranked #1 P4P when He chose those bums.

Yeah, it was bad. But it happens. He had started slipping years before.

There's a ****load of fighters missing on Roy's resumë. Still had he fought today he wouldn't be nearly as hated as Floyd because his character is not nearly as obnoxious.

There's a ****load of fighters missing on everyone's resume. But very few can claim to have a resume as accomplished as Jones.
