so if most of the ppl in your top 10 are bums what are you pose to do? fight the guys ranked 11-20? was he suppose to take a time machine and go in the past and future to fight. you really think SMW roy would have problems with the super 6? lmao. boxers now dont even fight that many top 10 dudes in their divison unify it and defend them. they fight a champion and move on. roy was a beast and one of the best ever and in his prime unbeatable. he was amazing. and he put on a great show. he is the reason why i started watching boxing back in 93 and started boxing.

man , steve collins ducked joe calzaghe.

yeah he was dying to jump in there with roy jones.
Roy wouldve made him way more money than fighting Calzaghe....

Nah, I don't. We all have our biases but the problem is when you let your bias overtake your objectivity. And even with Jones, I was very disappointed with the way he handled the Jirov affair. Don't know how anyone can defend that. But parroting names like Benn and Michalzewski...well, it's not to hard to debate that. Thanks for the backhand compliment though, bud lol.

Michael Nunn fought Graciano Rochigianni for the title and lost. Rochigianni was then wrongly stripped of that belt. In turn, Jones offered Rochigianni a fight which he pulled out of for "personal reasons." End of story.

Actually perhaps Nunn and Graciano should've had a rematch, like Jones got with Griffin, and who knows what could've happened.

I've heard the rumors that the fight was signed then called off.

I think Nunn was most likely past prime in 97, I wouldn't debate that but he got some wins.

Just interested to see if there were offers in 97 before Nunn lost a close fight.

I hate Jones but he has good wins, Virgil Hill was an excellent win.

The Nunn victory was Graciano's last stand...and further proof that Nunn was fading. Rochigianni had plenty of outside issues going forward from that win. Jones had plenty of solid wins - he basically cleared out 175. How many fighters do you know make 11 defenses in their third division? Crazy.

And then Roy went out, knocked Johnson down twice and won every second of every round going away.
Gut is another one of my dad's good friends. I've been knowing him since I was a little kid. I was even in his corner for a fight he had here in Saint Louis. And, I still vividly remember when Johnson knocked him. As soon as we saw him walk to the ring, something just didn't look right with Gut. Next thing we knew, he got knocked out. I saw him at the Alexander card here in August btw. He's a good dude, but I really wanted him to beat Johnson!

Guthrie was struggling to make weight pretty bad, if I recall. And Johnson was supposed to be a showcase fight for him. Needless to say, the result of that fight was shocking!

As unreasonable as Roy was at the negotiation table, at least we know he'd have never asked for Olympic Style drug testing....
