Why would he do that? To fight whom?

Then explain the situation with Tarver and Harding in 2000?

At least that way he would of had to fight only one soft mando instead of both of them.Who was his no2 at the time?

I understand the situation, but why would he do it with this fight exactly?

Like Dazed said, to fight who?

Seems like an intense nitpicking session to me.

At this stage Roy probably shouldn't need a Posse.. But apparently after looking at these boards it's still very gangster in Pensacola land. People are getting in a time machine to give Roy ****!

I believe it was Frazier. And his other top contender was probably someone he had already fought. But it didn't spare him from fighting TWO soft mandatories. He still had other titles he had to defend so the only time he petitioned was when he couldn't get the sanctioning bodies to wait their turn.

I cant find the original article but I got this:
Here is the statement put out by Jose Suliman

"They said that Frazier was the mandatory defense of the WBC, and that
the WBC forced Jones into the fight and threatened to strip him of his
title if he did not comply. Frazier was ranked No. 1 by the WBC, a
fact for which I said I was embarrassed and took full responsibility.
But the WBC never ordered a mandatory defense for Jones versus Frazier
and never threatened to strip him of the title. In fact, the fight was
first announced as being only for the WBA light heavyweight title,
which Jones also holds. The WBC only approved the fight a week before
it took place and never before. The decision to fight Frazier was made
voluntarily by Jones' representatives and HBO."
