It was Cotto who ruined Margarito not MOSLEY.

    Tony has and will always have enough power to damage oponents. He was never a one punch KO artist but he's had heavy hands all of his career. Garcia's KD wasn't a flash KO, it was a solid combination that ended with a flush perfectly landed right hand, Garcia wasn't even off balance either...

    I wouldn't put too much into that win, he hadn't fought in over a year, new trainer, new weight, and I'm sure the jitters from stepping back in the ring. You mention Tony fluidity against Clottey and not against Cotto...well, Clottey just fights one way and that's in front of you in a turtle shell where as Cotto moved around the ring all night and yet Tony still managed to land a lot of shots specially in power connects.

    Tony is far from ruined but he has declined of course, he's been in too many wars like you pointed out, the guy is what now? 32 or 33? all I know is that his fight against Manny will most likely be his last stand, he's gonna be as hungry if not hungrier than when he fought Cotto two years ago.

      What bothered me about the Garcia fight was that Garcia was more surprised than hurt when he went down. He took the same kind of punches over the next four rounds and didn't flinch. In fact, it was Margarito who started backing up.

      As for the Clottey bout, Margarito's hands were WAY faster - and that had nothing to do with his opponent. In fact, had that version showed up against Miguel, the fight would've ended four rounds earlier.

      Is Margarito ruined? Just declined? We don't know. But his performance against a top 1000 fighter in Garcia was disheartening. Good post as always, sir.

        Back to you my friend

        I won't lie to you, as a hardcore Tony fan I really wanted him to just go in there and blast Garcia quick in order to somewhat steer that dark cloud above his head, and I was a little disappointed that wasn't the final outcome of the fight. But after I reviewed the fight again I understood that Tony needed those extra rounds, he needed that extra work that Garcia was able to provide, in a sense he was a good opponent for him to comeback to just because of his resilience, but not really a threat to him in the end, even though Garcia has a reputation of having heavy hands as well.

        As far as Garcia being surprised, I don't blame him, everyone's perception was that after the Mosley fight Margarito was exposed to being a weak puncher, which wasn't the case after he went down from that shot. Eaner0919 from these forums has pointed out a couple of times that according to his sources Tony's corner actually yelled at him to not get a quick KO after that KD, they told him to stay calm and just work the rounds, as that was their gameplan.

        Anyway, in reality we can sit here and speculate and argue about this all day but we won't find out for sure until November 13th, when Tony is faced with a real threat and has to show his true instincts and fighting skills against Pac, the "slick" moves he showed against Garcia won't work for him in this fight so his best bet is to go back to his old style and go for the KO even if he's not successful at it.

        Cheers!

          If you're right, then Pacquiao will have his hands full in November.

            I just hope it's a competetive fight at least, I really doubt it won't be because both of their styles but if Tony is as "shot" as everyone thinks he is then I'm afraid it's ending quick

            *FYI I've never been a big fan of this fight anyway, but it is what it is.

              That may be, and we should all deplore cheating vermin. But at least margacheato got a little of what he deserved. What goes around comes around.

                How did you have it scored after the tenth round? On first viewing I had it even, but on the second I had Cotto up by a round...

                Code:
                M || 9  | 10 | 9  | 9  | 9  | 10 | 10 | 10 | 9  | 10 | // 95
                C || 10 | 9  | 10 | 10 | 10 | 9  | 9  | 9  | 10 | 9  | // 95
                Code:
                M || 9  | 9  | 9  | 9  | 9  | 9  | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | // 94
                C || 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | 9  | 9  | 9  | 9  | // 96

                Very, very tough fight to score. I'd probably have it different every time. Good thing it didn't go the distance. :wnk1:

                  Me neither. Not a fan of it at all. But it is what it is. Pac is the cash cow and Arum is doing what's best for him. What's best for Tony is another fight before he steps in with the big boys. Sigh..Boxing.

                      It used to be longer. He went into this whole schpiel about why it made no sense for Pac to fight them (Williams might be weight drained; Pac wouldn't get any credit). I mean, these people swear they're boxing fans
