  • It was Cotto who ruined Margarito not MOSLEY.

I just rewatched that fight and man oh man did Cotto land some SERIOUS flush bombs.

I thought they were just arm punches but Margs head was flying all over the place. No normal man can take that may hard bombs and be the same afterwards. He was unleashing 4-5 power combos over and over.

I decided to watch the fight and only focus on what Cotto did. He ruined Margarito.

Margarito won the fight but he lost the war.

If Margarito is ruined, I don't know how much we can put it on one fighter. He's had a long career with a really punishing style. You box as a pro for 15 years with a real active workrate and take a lot of shots, eventually it's going to catch up with you.

Could be but we don't know just yet. Too many circumstances revolving around all the recent events to be properly determined.

One thing for sure, cotto margo was brutal

        partly true

but seriously, if you're trying to fight like Margarito, chances are you're destined to be ruined early in your career

cotto may have some part of it, but shane definitely iced it

I agree with this for the most part. But damn Cotto had to be the most punishment in one night he nailed Margarito constantly his head and neck was all over the place.

They ruined each other IMO. At least the elite portion of each other's careers.

Mosley gave him a much worse beating than Cotto did. Shane was loading up on his shots with his feet planted, punishing Margarito to the body and head. I remember one sequence, I think the 3rd round, when Margarito walked through 2 huge right hands where it almost seemed like he rolled against the punch rather than with it.

Was Margarito really that declined going into the Mosley fight (Doug Fischer also said Margarito had a terrible training camp)? Or simply going up against a different style of fighter and really mentally distracted since the ****er got caught right before the fight trying to load his gloves?

Yeah I meant the most punishment before Sugar got his hands on him.

You make a good point. I sometimes wonder was it all mental for Maragrito that night. Maybe he fought like trash because he knew he didnt have his magic wraps to bail him out or maybe its because against Shane he wasnt the stronger man and SSM had his way with him on the inside.

Margarito took some killer shots against Cotto. We can speculate about the plaster and call him a cheater (as I believe he is) but the man has a determination that is quite amazing and rare to see as it is only visible in very few fighters. He took some hard shots against Cotto AND Mosley. Both fights were gruesome for Margarito regardless of the outcome in the Cotto fight. He went out on his shield against Mosley and took some VICIOUS shots. Floyd only took about three of those and was nearly KTFO...
Margarito just ate them like Tacos.

We have to remember though that Cotto's shots were less gruesome in terms of punishment that night because he was letting Margarito recuperate and come back with his own shots. Mosley didn't allow that. He hit Margarito with those vicious right hands and instead of back up like Cotto and allowing Margarito to recover he would hit him downstairs with some atrocious body punching. Anyone on here that has ever been hit hard to the stomach knows that it slows you down and even impairs your mental state of being...well imagine taking Mosley's right hands after those body shots...Mosley never let Margarito recover from shots...

Both fights took a lot out of Margarito but Mosley dished out more punishment. And loosing a fight to Mosley who is a future hall of famer doesn't necessarily mean your ruined...

this thread is really about diminishing nov 13th fight and saying pac fought a "ruined" fighter...

Without a doubt Mosley was on that "juice" the night he fought Tony. The following fight against FLoyd he looked like **** and gassed after like 30 seconds.
