Not to be a "Douche", but there are just as many MMA fans that say dumb **** all the time. Go on sherdog, and read a thread on boxing. Every 6th post says boxing is dying/dead.

I know you're just some pissed off MMA fan who came over to make a point, but honestly I don't care. Most MMA fans don't know **** about MMA. The whole crowds chanted "UFC" last night. How embarrassing to hardcore fans. I simply do not like MMA. I knew Toney would lose, but I wish he would have won, and yes I would have rubbed it in that a guy 10 years past prime, and 80lbs overweight won a HW match. ****, I'm impressed he lasted over 3 minutes. Couture wouldn't have in a boxing match.

Yes, maybe it is for you. Not for me. In either case Sylvia was just very dumb believing he could match Mercers boxing skills. Couture wasnt that dumb.

He kept out of punching range all the time, including when he took Toney down.
He went in for a unusually low take down by grabbing Toneys ankle. At the press conference Couture said that was his game plan. He also said he wouldnt use that technique against a good grappler because they would know how to counter it. In normal surcumstances, Couture would have gone for a double leg take down, not this low ankle grip.

Couture has admitted many times that he would have no chance against Toney in boxing, including at the post fight press confernence last night. This is because he respect boxing.

Well, for whatever reason, Sylvia saw fit to kick, rather than go for a take down. The fact that he was willing to attempt either means that he was willing to throw whatever "rules" you're talking about out the window. You're man enough to jump on here claiming a victory for Couture, be man enough to accept defeat.

At the press conference yesterday Randy was asked if he wanted to fight Toney in aboxing fight. He said no, and that James would knock him out in the first round.
The original gentleman's agreement was that it was a boxing match.

The official rules were an mma match.

Sylvia later stated that he did not make this gentleman's agreement which is why he executed the leg kicks. I have no doubt in my mind that Sylvia probably did make the gentleman's agreement, and then intended to reneg on it and fight MMA.

I think Mercer beat an MMA fighter who covertly intended to fight an MMA fight - whether Mercer knew what rules Sylvia was going to fight or not.

And Randy did say that he did not want to box Toney because he'd get ktfo (however, don't underestimate Couture's humility...he did box while he was a green beret in the US Army Corp)

Or people just don't care enough about something that right in the title disrespects them. Length is never good, learn how to get your point across in a few paragraphs. BTW, a MMA guy calling boxing fans doucebags is pretty rich. Remember it is your sport that embraces and promotes **** like tapout, blood, and unruly behavior. Just bleed man, just bleed.

In my opening post I also said that there were MMA "douches" as well. And there are lots of them.

I'm not pissed off. Just bored and had some time to write. I'm not writing to you anyways - I think my post is intended to be for the more balanced boxing (and mma) fan.

p.s. - Couture has the endurance and stamina of elite athletes half his age. He puts most guys in his own sport to shame...he is not human. He does have boxing skills and experience (not world-class obviously), but you won't rate his boxing skills as seen in mma as highly as pro boxers because its been adapted to his unique sport.

If you read the first couple lines you'd recognize that I delineated between boxing "fans" and boxing "douchebags" (as I had MMA "fans" and MMA "douchebags").

Boxing "fans" won't be offended by my post.

Boxing "douchebags" on the other hand won't even understand that post....which category do you fall into?

Couture did fight a finnish boxer in his first UFC fight. It was pretty much the same story. Btw, I dont know of any MMA fans who has any anamosity against boxing. They just see it as one of many elements in a fight.
