    brilliant
Re-read the post. I delineated between boxing "fans" and boxing "douches" (no differently than MMA "fans" and MMA "douches")

You should probably copy and paste all of your posts in this thread, on the MMA forum you came from, though. Because there are just as many MMA doucebags pretending that Couture did something special.

MMA fan typically agrees with your perspective on the Sylvia Mercer fight, but I don't. Mercer, a boxer, beat Sylvia fair and square. That fight was originally set up with rules to be a stand up fight in a cage setting but the state commissions changed that at the last second and ruled that it had to be an MMA fight. My understanding was that Sylvia and Mercer made a gentleman's agreement to just keep it standing despite the fact that the rules were MMA.

Sylvia, being the douchebag that he is, started kicking at Mercer if I recall. And the Mercer blasted him out of left-field.

Served him right and I was happy to see it.

And there is no reason why a boxer can't win in an MMA fight. In a fight anything can happen. Just because a boxer wins an MMA fight doesn't de-legitimize the sport.
Whether Sylvia was a douche is irrelevant. He kept standing at close range and did not shoot in for any take down. Nobody is denying a boxers ability at a certain range. But as long as you are careful of avoiding that zone, like Randy was by shooting in VERY low, the outcome is pretty much obvious.

I'm well aware that there are. If you read through the forums there do seem to be a lot of level-headed fans trying to straighten those idiots out too though.

Naw...I just thought he had it coming to him because he pulled a **** move. He wasn't supposed to kick, nor shoot, nor do anything but box. He's the kind of ****** who would shoot for a takedown even though they agreed that they wouldn't.

Happier than **** that Mercer taught him the lesson the hard way.

Excactly, but you are admitting that that fight was a boxing fight not an MMA fight. Therefore the argument that Mercer won an MMA fight against Sylvia is not legit.
At the press conference yesterday Randy was asked if he wanted to fight Toney in aboxing fight. He said no, and that James would knock him out in the first round.

Actually, the argument is completely legit. The very second you throw a KICK, it's no longer a boxing match.

I am not debating you emtions regarding that fight becaues I dont see it as important. I am arguing that it was much confusion what kinda rules they fought under so that to use it as an example of a boxer being succesful fighting at the highest level with MMA rules is not valid.
