Ok Vitaly first impressed me when he came back and fought Peters and Arreola 2 top 10 guys.
Kevin Johnson was not in the top 10 but I thought it was still an OK fight due to Vitaly activity.
However, Vitaly fighting Sosnowski and now Briggs is bullshit.... There are better fighters out there.
This shit is just as bad as Adamek fighting Grant and Haye fighting Harrison.Comment

Actually it was only after Lewis had beaten Tyson that he finally cracked The Ring's P4P rankings. No one criticised him for taking those fights at the time, because Holyfield was The Ring's #2 ranked Heavyweight when Lewis beat him, and Tyson was The Ring's #2 ranked contender when Lewis beat him.
It's ridiculous to compare either of those fights with Briggs today. Briggs hasn't been a top 10 fighter since 2006.
(As for FF's point, which you were replying to, that Briggs is younger than Vitali, that's so obviously irrelevant I don't believe he really said that! Vitali is still as close to his prime as Lewis was when he retired, and would be the odds on favourite to easily beat any top 10 fighter other than his brother. Briggs hasn't been a top 10 fighter for four years, and is no longer a top 50 fighter according to boxrec. Different fighters age differently and age is not in itself any indication of how close someone is to their prime. I don't believe that FF is really so ignorant as to be unaware of that fact)Last edited by Dave Rado; 08-17-2010, 09:25 PM.Comment

I'm not gonna argue that Briggs is a great choice of opponent but he would KTFO of Audley Harrison in less than 90 seconds.
So it might be a bad choice of opponent, but nowhere near as big a joke as fighting Audley Harrison.Comment

Fighting Sownowski and Briggs back-to-back is just as big a joke as Haye fighting Harrison.
It is all a bullshit fight. Plain and simple.
No credit.Comment

Maybe those of you criticizing Vitali for taking this fight should look over the WBC top-15:
Ray Austin - Complete joke, laid down against Wlad for the paycheck, no reason to pay him again
Odlanier Solis - Fat ass bum didn't even want the fight
Nicolai Valuev - Turned down a career high payday
Denis Boytsov - Has expressed 0 interest in a title fight
Tomasz Adamek - Currently scheduled to fight someone else
Derek Rossy - LOL... seriously.. is he better than Briggs?
Johnathon Banks - Doesn't take the sport seriously, got fat, is he better than Briggs?
Alexander Povetkin - Giant ***** does not even want to fight for a title
Chris Arreola - Already beat him
Juan Carlos Gomez - Already beat him
Tony Thompson - Would be a boring fight, he can't crack an egg
Albert Sosnowski - Already beat him
Alexander Dimitrenko - Got his ass kicked by midget Eddie Chambers, stands no chance vs Vitali. Soft as baby ****.
So who the hell is he supposed to fight off that list that is more attractive or poses more of a challenge than Shannon Briggs.
I swear some of you guys don't have a damn clue about how the sport works.Comment

I don't give a **** if you give him credit or not.
Vitali has to fight somebody ranked by the WBC and every guy he went after turned him down.
You do understand he can't fight someone who is not ranked don't you?
Do you honestly prefer to see Vitali fight Derek Rossy or Ray Austin?Comment

Audley-Briggs would be a pick 'em fight. Briggs would be in a race against time to get the KO before he gassed - and Audley has a pretty decent knock-out punch himself, although his opponent has to be fairly stationary for him to be able to land it.
Plus Audley is ranked a lot higher than Briggs, because he recently beat a top 50 fighter (albeit barely top 50), whereas Briggs hasn't done that since 2007.
In any case, it's ridiculous to hold a borderline ATG like Vitali to the same standards as a laughing stock like Haye.Last edited by Dave Rado; 08-17-2010, 09:14 PM.Comment

The problem I have with Vitali fighting Briggs, is that Shannon's done jack *****e to earn a title shot. He fought absolute bums. My fear is that he's just there for the paycheck and will not push himself in training camp.
Also, I think Vitali could've waited until after the Adamek-Grant fight to see if Tomas would fight him....Comment

Dave Rado really DOESN'T understand how the sport works. Vitali has to choose from among the people ranked by the WBC or unify with Haye (who is afraid of him). He called out Haye, and tried to make a fight with Valuev and Solis.Comment
