You're nuts if you think Audley would stand up to Shannon Briggs.

Audley was getting pushed around and bullied in the Prizefighter by two guys who had less than 10 career fights. The last guy was giving up 4 inches and 30 lbs and was still pushing Fraudley around until he got careless and walked into a punch.

Then he got his ass kicked for 11.5 rounds by Michael Sprott before landing a single punch.

Yes, we're talking about he same Michael Sprott who lost every round to a blind and washed up Lamon Brewster prior to fighting Audley.

Audley would probably **** his britches and take a knee from the wind generated by a Briggs miss.

No thank you. Holyfield is my former favorite fighter, would hate to see him take the kind of beating Vitali would give him.

The state of the heavyweight division is so pitiful that there are not any quality opponents. The Klitties have it so easy because thre are no contenders to challenge them.
Briggs is a joke and always has been with no heart or desire. But no one wants to fight and get destroyed by the Klits so a bum like briggs gets a payday though undeserved it will pay his bills for a few months.

He wouldn't have to. It's more than three years since Briggs has fought more than one round. Audley would only have to run and tie Briggs up for a round, and after that, Briggs would gas. At that point it becomes a pick 'em fight. Judging Briggs on what he used to be like years ago is crazy. That version of Briggs is no more. Just as Danny Williams (who Audley has beaten) and Kevin McBride (who was even worse than Williams) were able to KO a shot Tyson, any journeyman with a decent punch (which Audley does have) has a good chance of beating today's version of Briggs, who is just as shot as Tyson was when he had those two losses.

Holy did about as well against Valuev as Haye did (except on the official scorecards), so he arguably deserves a shot, and he is certainly far more deserving than either Briggs or Sosnowski.

Until Holy has a really decisive defeat, he won't retire. If he doesn't retire soon, he's likely to end up with long term brain damage.

A really decisive defeat to a great champion would allow Holy to retire with dignity and go out on his shield, which is better than what he's currently doing, fighting on and risking his health with no prospect of glory. It would also allow him to end his career with a big payday, which is reportedly something he needs.

Also, even an old Holy is cagey and clever enough to pose Vitali some problems for a few rounds, although I agree it would be a mismatch in the end.

If he was getting really badly beat up, his corner would pull him out anyway.

I don't believe Adamek has turned down an opportunity to fight Vitali, or was ever offered one. He's fighting this week, in a stay busy fight he'll win easily, so it's a funny week for Vitali to announce he's fighting someone so much less deserving, without at least trying to make a fight with Adamek first. And there are scores of other fighters more deserving of a shot than Briggs, most of whom have never been approached.

Don't know man. I know that negotiations with Haye, Valuev and Adamek(?) has been unsuccesful for various reasons. Sometimes you have to draw the line and get a fight signed. You cannot wait forever (unless you're Floyd).

I don't think there have been any negotiations with Adamek? I find it hard to believe he would turn down the opportunity, and he's fighting an easy work-out this week, so is available after that. And he likes to fight four times a year, so Vitali wouldn't have to wait long.

And I think there are many other fighters more deserving (and certainly more highly ranked by boxrec) than Briggs, who have never been approached.

Briggs is just an easy money-making fight against a shot fighter, which is money-making only because of his achievements in the distant past; but two fights against journeymen in a row isn't how a borderline ATG should be closing out a great career.

He's a much more clever fighter now, though. His experience helps him offset ageing.

There's one HUGE upside to this fight: we won't have to listen to Briggs whine anymore about "conspiracies" to keep him from fighting a Klitschko.

He's about to get what he's been asking for.
