How many 40 year old fighters fight non stop for 12 rounds ???
I got the answer for you , they dont .
And that's why they usually retire...
What the hell? Are they supposed to give older fighters a break or something? If he can't fight the whole fight, maybe he should consider a different occupation.
You can't say Hopkins was robbed. It was a close fight. Hopkins finished strong and exposed Taylor to some degree. But if you give away all those early rounds, it doesn't matter how great you look at the end.
Bottom line - Hopkins only has himself to blame. It is no doubt hard to lose a championship when you finish so strong, but the judges have to score each round and looking good in the 12th doesn't change the score in the first 6 rounds.
Taylor accepted a gift from Hopkins. He will need to step up his game in the rematch, because I doubt Hopkins will be so dumb again. Hopkins is simply amazing for a 40 year old, and finished stronger than a 26 year old. Taylor will have learnt a lot from this fight so a rematch will be interesting.
Taylor is a decent fighter w/ athleticism, I can't believe Hops made this fight so close. He could've won it easier if he started earlier. He could've even KOed Taylor (who was winded and sloppy).
Horrible performances by both guys, Hops for giving away so many rounds and Taylor for not finishing strong. Winky would beat them w/ his jab IMO (which is why Hops don't want to fight him).
the bias of the hbo crew made me sick. merchant just couldnt get his little jabs at bhop in fast enough, and lampley was no better. the fight went exactly like rjj said.
It's funny how different people see fights differently. I seriously that except for the one flurry in the 10th that Hopkis did nothing to hurt Taylor, while I think Taylor landed a number of thuds that had Hopkins cringing. In fact, this is the way I saw the story of the fight:
- Taylor comes out jabbing and moving and Hopkins just can't keep up the same pace.
- Taylor gets in and lands enough shots to bother Hopkins. Maybe not killing him, but hurting him enough to win rounds.
- Around the middle of the fight Hopkins starts getting in landing his own shots, but they do nothing to Taylor. Taylor's moving as much as before, he's not hurt.
- By round 9 and 10 Taylor knows he has the fight won but he's tired and his nerves are getting to him. He drops his hands and Hopkins nails him with a couple of good shots. He's reeling, but survives.
- Hopkins takes the last few rounds to make it close but in the end it's not enough to take the fight.
Anyway, that was just my interpretation, and maybe it will change some after watching the fight again.
I am not denying that B-Hop looked better, cause he did. He showed true champ form, ability and ring savy. But it was too little too late. I think if he decides to rematch he will lose that by decision too. Watching with the volume down, i can see JT winning again. He did to much work early. He was rocked a bit in the championship rounds. But just cause your the champ dont mean your entitled to anything!
This was close. Taylor won the fist half of the fight, Hopkins won the second half.
As soon as the action heated up and they stated to trade, Hopkins took over. He's the champ and wasn't put on his ass.
IMO winning the second half of the fight means more than winning the first the first half.
I had it a draw.
what kind of ****ed up **** is this how the hell do you get any part of the fight is more important than any other part why dont we ask hopkins which members of his family he wants as judges as well.
it doesnt matter whether youre the champ or not you still have to earn the win and hopkins only really put it in for 3 rounds he got exactly what he deserved he should have made sure rather than just wander round for 9 rounds and then fight
the bias of the hbo crew made me sick. merchant just couldnt get his little jabs at bhop in fast enough, and lampley was no better. the fight went exactly like rjj said.
i did feel like it was Roy vs. Merchant and Lampley (hey, id pay to see it) although i like all the commentary, the HBO crew did lean on Taylor alot
yup! Roy Jones was the only one who really said the truth. Bernard was countering and sliping punches and Lampley and Merchant just loved the punches that Taylor threw althought they mostly missed
