hoya was a money fight true, but pac was called out to go up 2 divisions. hell, who wouldnt want hoya fight? even darchinyan wanted to fight oscar for the money.
    Twako:

You can't have it both ways. Hatton was the lineal 140 champ as was baldomir the 147 lineal champ. The point of the thread, and you are actually agreeing with it, is that when floyd was not fighting and manny was the undisputed top draw, he chose to fight those who provided him the most money, not the best challenge. Hatton (ko'd by floyd looked horrible in tune up) and ODh (147) were not the best competition.

If floyd leaves again, will manny do this again, or, as you and other pac fans say, fight the best competition? Which does manny choose?

kinda silly if you ask me.

Paul Williams is not ranked at 147, hasn't fought there in 2 years and holds no belts.

Bradley has had 1 fight at 147, holds no belts there.

On top of that neither guy is a big name.

Pac is at the tail end of his career, from what I can speculate he's got 2-3 fights left until he retires. That means those final fights are going to be the biggest possible and/or the most meaningful.

Margarito, as much BS as it may be, will offer a belt at 154, which would be pac's 8th weight class title. That's legacy and it's a bigger fight than bradley & p-will.

That's what it comes down to.

Your always a good poster so let me respond in kind.

Bradley is considered the best at the weight manny is still the lineal champion. Yet he called out manny not at this weight, but 147 where manny campaigns. His name isn't big but his respect and talent are. he just called manny out. When floyd is in this position pac fans say he needs to accept challenges to test skills. Shouldn't manny be held to the same standard.

Paul Williams is almost the consensus #3 p4p fighter in the world. Whether we agree with that or not, he has called manny out at 147. He is not a big name but he would be a tough challenge. Margarito, as of today, is not as respected as the other two fighters, yet he would bring a higher payday.

Although we say it differently the above post makes me think you agree that manny will be the new floyd.

If this is floyd, pac fans say he hurts boxing by not fighting the more respected challengers (cotto/marg) for less money. Would manny be doing the same by fighting marg/cotto at this point instead of tim/paul?

Yes but we all know Pac isn't going back to 140.

I think Pac's resume speaks for itself as far as challenges go, he's constantly fought the best.

Everyone knows Bradley is a good solid fighter, pound 4 pound even, but really at this point of Pac's career and where Bradley is at, is it realistic?

Just because someone calls someone out doesn't mean they have to fight, **** guys call each other out all the time. It doesn't work that way.

Paul Williams is almost the consensus #3 p4p fighter in the world. Whether we agree with that or not, he has called manny out at 147. He is not a big name but he would be a tough challenge.
Absolutely he would be a good challenge. The problem though is Williams doesn't offer anything to the table other than being a challenge. No belts and he isn't ranked at 147 nor has he fought in the division in 2 years.

IMO Williams sort of hurt himself by weight class hopping back & forth. If he would have stayed at 147 he would have forced himself to the way to the top of the discussion as far as Floyd & Pac go. But him not being there for 2 years hurt him badly.

Also, something probably more important is the fact that Al Haymon managers Paul Williams. After the pac-floyd crash, it seems very unlikely Haymon & Bob Arum would work together for anything but pac-floyd. Unfortunately this also goes for Andre Berto, who would have been my personal choice for Pac (I think unifying 147 is more impressive than winning a vacant belt at 154).

Margarito, as of today, is not as respected as the other two fighters, yet he would bring a higher payday.
That is a pretty big factor though. Would pac get $20+ million guaranteed against bradley or p-will?

Pac is at the tail end of his career, from what I can speculate he's got 2-3 fights left until he retires. I wouldn't say he's the new floyd I think pac's resume is about 5 X better than Floyd's. He's taken a lot more challenges and risks in his career compared to floyd, I think that's pretty clear & obvious. Also, I don't think Margarito is some walk in the park either.

We agree its not realistic because he can't make $20 mil for either. But explain that to your bretheren. To think floyd would or should choose Marg/Cotto over ODH is ridiculous. But, if you felt that way then you have to feel manny should do the same.

The resume point is not valid to me in that when you are up and coming you will seek out fights that pay the most. Generally, this is against the toughest competition. Manny wasn't seeking tough competition as much as he was fighting guys multiple times to earn the only big paydays available at the smaller weights, IMO.

To a large extent, I think because floyd wins usually by a large margin, his resume is judged after the fact. Case in point, manny people argue undefeated hatton at 147 was worse then Hatton who went back down to 140 for Manny. How is that?

Based on his last 2 fights, I don't think you can say this is the same margarito. Again, you give your honest reasons and I respect that. But I just don't see how its ok for manny to make money yet floyd had to "do what's best for boxing"?
